Oh thats so close ! Ill be back at my folks for a while in Old Kilpatrick ( not far from Balloch at all ! ) Im back mid July for a book shoot in Lewis for a week then end of July ill be back at home so just let me know when you have time and we can do a mer-meet and greet and maybe I can get David to do some nice shots for us ! :D Also my mum is a make up artist/body painter, so we could have some fun doing mermaid inspired shoots ! :D

Oh I so agree ! My friends and I used to jump off the pier at Luss in the summer for swimming ! You can actually get some pretty amazing sunsets there too ! Its probably going to take me a while to get used to the temperature change haha ! its about 40degrees here at the moment and we are praying for some rain to freshen the air lol This is awesome, Im so excited that your so close by ! :D I was hoping to ask the Playdrome in Clydebank to let me swim there, have you tried them yet ? They have 3 pools - a large one for swimming laps, a wave pool and a baby pool. The large pool used to host the " Aqua Disco" where they had massive inflatable obstacle courses set up in the water ( long time ago now mind you haha ) oh those were the days :P

Ah thats good news ! Do they let you use your tail there ? Im hoping to organise some mermaid training sessions at Playdrome when I get back and possibly U/W shoots for models trying to upgrade their portfolio so really hope they let me use it ! If not, the Beardmore Hotel has a nice small pool that could be good for shoots, its been a long time since I was there mind you so would need to do a recon mission :p I know playdrome used to have scuba lessons in there and also saw people kayaking in there before lol

Great stuff ! Well Id be happy to split costs of a lane with you ! How often do you go swimming ? David will be doing some training courses when we get back to get back into working offshore but I'm sure I could squeeze him for a few shoots before he gets back into the swing of things :P Im looking online for beautiful spots around Scotland that would be great for mermaid shoots in an attempt to make me feel better about leaving tropical Phuket and Im actually really excited ! At the moment I'm swimming every tuesday at 1:00 but I really want to go more :) Silver sands in Morar is the most beautiful beach I've ever found in Scotland the fairy pools in Skye are a definite must for pictures I'll be going there quite soon actually when I collect my silicone tail from Florida. I'm kind of stalking you on facebook now lol I love your tail it's really pretty :)

well there's the folkstone mermaid festival happening in august from what we can tell and there was one planned for london in may but it looks like that one has fallen through.

I've been aiming to plan a meet in Blackpool in september which might be easier for scottish mers to get to =) there's trains from glasgow and edinburgh that run straight to Preston and then there's a 20 min connection from Preston to blackpool.

Hopefully in the next month or two i'll be able to start getting some solid details together for people but we were thinking of a day on the pleasure beach theme park, a photo op on the beach and then renting a heated pool for the evening that we could all swim in. And then maybe a trip to the sea life center and the tower in the morning before people have to travel home? as I figured most people will need to stay in blackpool overnight. I'm going to see if I can get a good price on hotel rooms for people too, Though depending on if my family has managed to get a new house or not (currently renting), then a bunch of people could come crash at my house and save on the hotel costs =)

Hey guyys! I just had a meeting with the head of marketing from the sandcastle waterpark about hiring the pool for september for the meet! WE ARE A GO!!! :D

we have the choice to hire it for the friday night 8-10pm after our day on the pleasure beach themepark, or on the thursday night for a few hours starting at 4.30pm as they close a bit earlier on the thursday.
(I'm covering hire fees, but if people want to possibly swim both evenings, i'd have to ask for people to chip in like £10 to cover the hire fees for the extra evening, and I'd have to check with the waterpark but I couldn't see it being an issue to use it both nights)

Also just to make people aware of here who might not have seen on fb. The event for the 11th has been postponed til the spring cause no one could make it to this one. It'll be a small UK mer focused meet.

Brand new mer here from Kent in the UK. I don't know how I've managed to go this long before discovering the world of mermaiding! You're definitely not the only one LoulouBelle. I'm a swimming teacher but my own swim fitness is awful. I used to do competitive swimming but an injury a number of years ago sidelined my active lifestyle and I gained a huge amount of weight because of it. Always wanted to be a mer of some description but was put off by my size and general lack of fitness. I joined mernetwork as motivation that I can actually achieve my goals ^_^

Me three ladies - I used to be a dancer but in recent years have let my fitness slide horrendously. I burlesque now and am happy with my new curvier/squidgier frame, but ohmygod I want my stamina back! And I really miss dancing and swimming... so mermaiding and a new dance class it is :D

(Turns out I'm enthusiastic about exercise if I love what I'm doing - I'm just not much of a gym or running bunny...)

It definitely makes a huge difference if you enjoy what you're doing. Instead of feeling like you're working hard to get fit, it feels like you're doing something for the fun of it and getting fit as a bonus. I can't see anything appealing about the thought of going to a gym, but swimming is just immense fun. I was moved up a group at my swimming lesson this week, so something's definitely working!

Congrats! ^_^ I do find that swimming is one of those things you can improve much quicker with in a noticeable way. I don't seen as much personal improvement with things like running or cycling as I do with swimming. I'm not sure if that is just me. Either way, keep it up LouLouBelle, you will be a full mermaid in no time ^_^

Thanks! I can't swim without thinking 'mermaid' and I think that's definitely adding a whole new dimension of motivation! [emoji23] I got really hyper excited when my instructor agreed that swimming with a monofin should be my goal to work towards. She said they've done a monofin course at the pool before, so it looks like I'm in a good place to work towards becoming a mermaid. [emoji4]

Hi, I'm a super newbie mermaid... as in, literally got my monofin in the post today and joined some fb groups/this forum after lurking and tentatively dipping my flukes into the idea of the water of mermaiding for about a year.

I'm based on the East Coast of Scotland, so would love to join a wee Scottish Mini-Mer-Pod and meet up with fellow Scottish Merfolk soon! :D And then join in with wider UK meets from next year... I tend to slowly ease myself into things like this to begin with, but I'm trying to do more scary things despite major anxiety and live according to the rules that if it makes me happy, I want to at least try it out. Mermaids make me happy, so I'm giving Mermaiding a go!

Hard-mode: I'm hypersensitive to chlorine, so have to learn this malarkey in safe sea pools, a nearby disused (for more than rowing boats and canoes/cayaks anyway) harbour, the sea and freshwater wild pools. So, you know, totally up for an adventure to somewhere like Skye's fairy pools with potential future podmates maybe? #squirtlesquadgoals

So, who else is based in Scotland and is an active Mer (I've seen a couple of posts on the latest pages of this I want to follow up on, but know that if I go too far back it will be out of date and people might not still be Mermaiding!) and would like to meet up sometime?

Hello from the other side of the Bridge! I am an Edinburgh Mer, still very active. :) would happly meet up. There are a few pools in hotels which have non colrinated water, so that might be an idea for you. Around here, there is only one safe sea pool, which is at North Berick, but its pretty cold, will be warmer this time of year, but still pretty freezing.

There is a lake near here where people go swimming, but of the top of my head I can not remember where it is...

But happy to help out and meet up etc.:)

Hey I'm super new waiting on a tail for xmas, and I'm in Devon. I love it here, but water is not very warm a lot of the time.
Im lucky tho as my inlaws have a heated indoor swimming pool, (not massive but beggers can't be choosers) and cousins nearby with
outdoor swimming pool, for summer, my local pool (seasonal) is open to use of tail/monofin when it quiet too.

Hi Camilla – I'm based in Norwich, Norfolk! I haven't tried asking any pools here if they'll allow monofins, mostly because it's just me and I think mermaiding alone isn't as fun. Just sent you a friend request!
