Edit: not spirit gum but whatever that stuff you can but from Reynplds that bonds silicone to skin is called (Skin Tight?)

Because I am a complete nut I am making a silicone headpiece based off of the Asari in Mass Effect to go with my Octopus tail. It will not blend into my head but have a distinct line (like hair) and show my ears. I will be basing it off a headcast, but I was wondering if anyone has experience with using spirit gum underwater. It will be tight on my head but I will probably still want to glue down the edges.

In case you are wondering, this is what the Asari look like:

I use spirit gum with my fairy ears and have swam with them underwater no problem.

Reminds me also of the headpieces from Empires of the Deep (http://io9.com/will-we-ever-get-to-see-chinas-legendary-bomb-empires-1659833746):

I can't wait to see what you come up with! I love the look of this style of mer, and you can totally rock it!

Yup, I was originally gonna go for that look but then decided the simpler tentacles would be easier to deal with underwater. Now I just have to decide if I want to do a head cast or if I want to chance sculpting it on a mannequin head and hoping it will stretch enough. I am leaning toward the latter because of how stretchy silicone is. Of course, I don't want a headache, either... It's a tough decision.

Well if you've ever worn a silicone swim cap, I would suggest you look at that. The edges need to be tighter than the middle parts. I'll google a pic. 25514 see how it nips in at the bottom? You need that to keep the cap on. So I would suggest something like.... Sculpting a bulge on top of a mannequin head that's smaller than your head... So that the cap is shaped correctly first. I'm not sure how clear this is bc I'm tired as hell. But I would take that into consideration. What about sculpting flat cap-shaped pieces and then casting and adhering them together along the middle so it works just like a normal swim cap?
