Said to be a painting, is that fluke familiar to anyone else?

A friend of mine posted this to my FB timeline today.

And while there are some amazing street artists out there, this one.... does anyone else find this familiar? Like it's from a photo and it's been altered, or perhaps painted based on a mer we've all seen?

I wish I could see the space around it. If anyone knows more about this please reply here.

AHA! But yeah, an altered photo, or an incredibly good painting. Either way, not quite what people at the group seem to think.

Cool thank you! It looked like Raven in all that water- note the hair and netting top. Though I realize it could be someone else.

I rally want to find the original photo to post to the FB thread- but there is an original post elsewhere, so I'm looking to see if they came out and said it was a photo first. Another edit to say: have to be a member of the group to comment, and I don't want to wait for the pending, but if anyone else feels like it, let them know.

It is a merbellas tail. The mermaid wearing it in the pic might be a Raven or one of her mermaids, but I'm pretty sure the tail in the videos is the same in the pic. :)
Also perhaps the painting or art they are referring to is the piece posted in the comments?

Yeah, that's not a painting. That's a photograph from one of Raven's shows. I think maybe Lorelei took it? Or Marla, or maybe someone with Raven. I recognize the image.

Yeah... that's no painting. It's a photograph. It's not even been photoshopped to look like a painting. And I am the queen of sniffing out "art" that is actually photoshopped pictures. Maybe they were referring to something else? 'Cause it's absolutely a photo.

So, yeah, that's a photo I took while working with Merbellas at the Michigan Ren. Festival a while back. I didn't know much about watermarking back then, so the picture was stolen and posted All. Over. The. Freaking. Place. It bugs the crap out of me, but there's not much I can do about it now. The photo is everywhere; tumblr, facebook, pinterest, instagram... I don't even try to keep up with it anymore.

I can confirm that yes, it's a rainbow merbellas tail that was used for a ren faire worn by one of her mermaids, photo taken by mermaid lorelei.

A great way you can check these things is by uploading the photo in to google image search. (actually search google image search and you'll find the link by searching by image) it'll show you everywhere that image is on the web.

That person did link that painting in teh comments, but the photo was posted as a work of street art. I doubt even commenting with the proper info would be seen by many.
