My friend Katrina and I decided to learn how to make beautiful cakes about a month ago. The plan was to make at least one cake per month. Last month's was a disaster. This month, however, was slightly less hideous.

Are you allowing the icing to cool completely before icing? I notice that your blue looks pretty drippy.

Your mermaid is fun though. I love cake decorations even more than eating them:)

Fun! I love to cook and bake but I dont have a friend to play along with me right now. Itd be cool to be able to have challenges or throwdowns with somebody though heh

Ive always liked the idea of having an ombre cake (white to blue of course!) served on a pedestal thats been covered with vanilla wafer crumb "sand" with molded chocolate seashells arranged around it..... maybe some pearls to deco the top. I make up a lot of idea for cakes, dishes, and desserts

I just realized I had a ton of responses! Wow, those other cakes are fabulous.
Are you allowing the icing to cool completely before icing? I notice that your blue looks pretty drippy. We put it in the fridge for a bit, but we accidentally left it out between putting the layers together and icing the cake.
