This was Mermaid Blondies old tail from the dreaded Fish Butts and it needs a makeover! It's very sticky (like everything sticks to it!), has some mold spots on the fluke & the hand made monofin is smelly due to booties being used as foot pockets :cthulhu:
I have already tested if my aquarium silicone will adhere and it has done so very well :D
So the plan is to re-scale the whole tail, remove the old fluke and make a completely new one with a removable monofin :D
Here are some pictures

Plonk in another Merfin? Or are you going to be using a different style of monofin?

It always makes me smile to see some new life going into an old tail, particularly one that has some history. I like the direction this one is going, keep it up!

I think blondie had some comments go viral on reddit about her experience testing out mermaiding. Sean was telling me~

Thanks everyone for lovely encouragement :D xx
Yes I don't think Blondie is active anymore but don't quote me on that ;)
I will be using a Mahina monofin and a new skin covering so I can reshape it. The monofin it had was terrible because it had no propulsion at all, it was like treading water!

Oh. Looking forward to seeing the end result!

I'm calling this one a Pink Snapper Tail <3
I might add some side fins to this one :D

I'm going to take it out in a few days for a swim and I will take the GoPro ;)

What did you use to paint the silicone. Thinking of doing something similar but have heard silicone is a nightmare to paint??

Silicone is easy to paint if you have the right application method. Here's the fishbutt I repainted for Mermaid Harmony using silicone paints.

I haven't had any peeling, or anything like that happen with my fishbutt since I've gotten it back. :-)

I re-scaled over the original tail with silicone and dusted with pearl ex and sealed with more silicone ;)
Works a treat! :D

Oh my goodness!!! :jawdrop:
I've been so busy and away from the network (transferred to university finally and live in a new city!), I'm so glad I stumbled back in and saw this! It looks fantastic! I can't believe that's the tail I once had! I remember those mold spots. I wasn't even sure if it was mold because I started treating them as soon as I saw them. I figured because the latex never full cured (despite leaving it out in the Florida sun for days) the mold developed in the latex when I went for my first swim. I never got worse from when I started treating it though, don't know if that's still true. I just adore the new scales on it!
And yes, I did have a few comments go very viral on Reddit about mermaiding haha (http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/2gf7lv/what_was_your_its_not_a_phase_mom_moment_and_was/ My username is iblondie) I'm still open about it and all. I love the network, I've just gotten my feet knocked out from under me with school and living in a new city. I still lurk around though every week or so :)

I'm so glad you like it! :D
I actually cut off the end with the mold spots because it was a little grose, but the new fluke is a lot better and has a lot more power :)
Hope your enjoying your new place and school xx
