Hey everyone :) I've lately been thinking about getting into monofin swimming, so I can eventually sew up a tail to use it with. I've gotten good at double-fin dolphin-kick swimming, but have never even seen a monofin in person XP I've seen all of the reviews for the finis ranges (foil, rapid, wave etc etc), but also found a cheap brand that looks like a fair quality for me as a beginner. There are the Hydra monofins, and the Triton ones too. I'd like to not spend too much as I'm just seeing if it's really my thing first. Thanks everyone :D

I got my Finis Wave at the Aqua shop in QLD. Including postage, it cost under $120 - $150. I can't remember exactly how much though.

Oh... Cheaper than the foil is the new Aquarius monofin also by Finis. But you'd have to buy it from Amazon or somewhere else outside Australia. Shipping might go over your budget too. Just search on google, find the cheapest price I guess.

I love my Mahina MerFin. Its my fave over my two other monofins, the Wave and the Fin Fun.

Thanks Mermaid Jaffa :) I was originally thinking of getting a finis wave, but I've read of lots of people receiving them broken, or they break within a few uses. How is yours going? Also, with the Mahina fin, what's the pricing like? thanks :)

I have the Hydra and I love it! It was $99 USD when I bought it, and that includes shipping to the US!

Maethor, I have been considering the hydra, except instead of $55 (the triton) it's still $60 AUD. If I was going to get it, I'd probably get the clear one :) is it comfy/easy to get the right foot size?

Carla's Swimwear has free shipping if you buy $100 or more.

I bought the Finis Wave online with delivery was $85 AUS, and recently I got the Hydra which was $111 AUS (both delivered). Hydra though I'd recommend sock as it gave me blisters, but its wonderful to swim with ^_^

They sound like decent prices, Ilyena :D what was the name of the website you ordered them from?

The wave was initially from ebay, but the hydra was from Swiminn (http://www.swiminn.com/) <link

any suggestions for a good mono fin for a size 15 foot? I have http://www.swimoutlet.com/p/finis-trainer-1-monofin-2182/ on my christmas list but I don't like the way it looks with those pieces sticking up or the width.

Thought of getting one with adjustable straps?

What kind of size are you looking for? (not foot size, monofin size) :)

something that I can swim with now and integrate into a tail when I build that.

If you're looking for ones with straps, there's the wave, tempo,rapid,hydra,triton,dol-fin,minos etc.. just some i could see that had straps. :) you can find them straight off google

I will forever recommend the Hydra/Triton/Minos - all of the So Dive monofin variations :) I own the Hydra in clear, though eventually I'd like to have another in pink for swimming without a tail (easier to see underwater - the clear practically disappears, which I love for wearing in tails, but I don't want to accidentally hit anyone who gets too close when I'm swimming). I'm planning on getting the Minos for my mertender, since his feet are much bigger than mine, plus he's much taller than my short self :)

I got the Mahina Merfin, also known as the Oceanika, and even though mine is a touch small (wrong size), I love it. It gets great propulsion and has that "mermaid" look. It's beautiful and flowy in the water. You can go to Urban Outfitters and have it sent to the store to save on shipping.

Try leaderfins, they're a bit over 100 but they're a fiberglass monofin and you can pick how rigid it is.
