Please feel free to direct me to another forum or thread if this has already been asked. I searched but couldn't find much about this topic.
What i was wondering was, what are the differences between a latex (real latex like mermaids of Hawaii use, not the Alex plus) and a silicone tail? Any major differences, disadvantages, etc to either one?

You can develop a latex allergy without warning (happened to several mers) and kids tend to have latex allergies and can also develop one without warning. According to Thom Shouse (he spoke about this at merfest) Latex breaks down a lot in sea water and is prone to mold.

Huh, that's interesting. I knew about kids having potential latex allergies but hadn't heard about spontaneously developing any. Thanks, aniaR.

Silicone also tends to be heavier than latex. I know some mers comment saying their silicone tails can weigh anywhere from 20-40 lbs, depending on how elaborate the tail is.

just depends on how thick it's cast the same thing can happen with latex. Mike Van Daals Latex tails were the heaviest tails on the market for a long time.

I believe Latex is also more susceptible to UV damage than silicone.

In my opinion, silicone is less vulnerable to UV damage than latex.

Both latex and silicone tails can be customized in terms of blossom word game (https://immaculategrid.io/blossom-word-game)design, color, and features. Consider what aspects are most important to you.
