I've been lurking around immune site for like a year now or something but I just came into some money from my grandfather and if I have any of it left over after I go Christmas shopping it's going towards the tail fund.
I'm looking to make a scaleless body on my tail. I want the body to be smooth like a dolphin. I feel like it would be more realistic and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how I could accomplish that. I'm looking to use Latex and neoprene as my materials. Can I just paint multiple layers of latex onto the neoprene body to get that smooth slick latex like look (my bestie does some minor special fx stuff and she's made some minor prosthetics with it before).
I'm basing my tail texture off this picture and would love some suggestions:

I made a smooth tail out of GE silicone and neoprene. I painted the neoprene and then just smoothed the silicone over the sheets. I did all the sewing after the silicone had dried. I have a whole thread on it.

my experience with Neoprene is you WILL need to get the suite as tight as you can get it around the body. if it doesnt fit you like a glove it will then sag when water is applied. the Latex will also crinkle. basically it all depends on the suit to how the finished product will look.

There was a tail like this in the movie "nymph" and I really liked it.

I personally didn't like my neoprene tail, too boyant. It made it hard to go deep in the water.

As someone who is allergic to latex, I would avoid it. What if you run into a kid who's allergic? :( it would be a bad time.

I bet this would be easy with silicone though! You'd save on money because you wouldn't have to make a "scale sheet". Just the fluke and the silicone.

You could make a tail out of smooth skin neoprene. No latex or silicone needed. I did
