Ok so I am still getting used to how this forum works so sorry if I repeat past questions....
Anywho, I am loving hairpieces and they way they look, but my question is when you wear them underwater, how do you keep your hair from getting completely tangled up in them? Is there a trick or is it just painful haha

Hair clips? There are some mers who I've watched on youtube, can swim and move their hair out of their faces without using their hands.
Maybe you could style your hair so that it becomes part of the hair pieces but is easy to undo and take out.

Gelatin can be used to slick your hair into a position and hold it there. It's what they use in synchronized swimming.

Does gelatin keep out the chlorine?

I'd guess it would, but it's an involved process you have to mix it, comb it in, arrange your hair, then heat dry it for a longish time.

Raven has a video tutorial of how she puts her clips in. I find that combined with actively moving your hair when you surface works great. As someone who actually wears them and swims with them on a regular basis I can tell you once in a while they'll still get tangled but that method works best and sometimes I reinforce with bobby pins

That's a handy video.
Those are the little silicone hair ties, right? I love those, they don't kill your hair.

If you forget where that video is, it's also in the Accessory Making FAQ (http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?6472-%E2%98%85-The-Accessory-Making-FAQ-%E2%98%85) for easy finding :) I use that technique and it works amazing, and I have super thin fine hair too! As for the tangles, I find that taking preventive steps for your hair (as detailed in the How to deal with chlorine's negative effects thread) (http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?4402) helps it also keep from tangling. I get my hair wet with freshwater first, ring it out a bit, then add the Ion's swimmer's spray before getting in.
You can also use coconut oil! Luma (the Mermaid Atlantis) gave me this great tip about getting the coconut oil in your hair mess free. Just get spay cooking oil (like pam) but get the coconut oil kind! I know I've seen it at Trader Joes, and they probably have it in other health food stores, and online, as well. Just take that and spray the oil in- no fussing with it, easy peasy :)
I find that if I don't use some kind of conditioning, spray, or oil that my hair gets INSANELY tangled, especially tangled up in clips. I didn't do it before an underwater photoshoot one time and the photographer was calling me Merida cause my hair was going nuts. I also had to rip out a chunk of my hair to get my hair piece out cause it kept getting tangled up. It's worth it to take the extra few minutes to put something in your hair :) It also protects it from the chlorine too!
