Hiiii, I didn't know where to put this thread but figured that here would be the best spot so mers could use this information if they're making their own tails.
Now I want to make my own tail, but it's not going to happen for quite a while because I'm a poor as heck college student haha, but I'm one of those people who love to calculate prices and materials in advance so I know what I'm getting myself into and so I can draft plans and plan Bs and Cs too.
My question is this (for both commercially bough tails and handmade):

How thick is your fluke? Is the thickness at the tip different than that at the top? About how thick would you say each half of the fluke is on it's own?

and if you could maybe post pics of the side of your fluke too? (maybe with something to give scale to it too) it'll give me a great idea of the average thickness of the fluke.
Thanks!

My fluke on my raven tail is only slightly thicker than the monofin and textured. ON the ridges however on the outside it's a bit thicker. I'd say less than half an inch thick for the monofin part, and an inch thick for the extra ridges (extend past monofin on the sides)

Our MC tail is like 2.5 inches thick and goes up to almost 3.5 in thicker parts.

My handmade tail (now called Goldie and belonging to Siren Tide) was cast thin and there were issues with the fluke poking through the silicone where kids stepped on it. The next time I make a tail, I'll be making the fluke thicker, probably closer to an inch/inch and a half.
