In addition to mermaid tails, I'm also making a bunch of different sorts of accessories, but I do have some questions.

Bracers: if I made scale bracers, on the forearms from the wrist toward the elbow, which way would you want the scales to flow, from the wrist toward the elbow, from the elbow towards the wrist, or around the arm lengthwise.

Waist cincher/blender - gapping solutions: I've designed a piece that solves this issue, I think it's pretty clever...it, like a lot of things I make, are pretty labor intensive, and takes a fair amount of silicone. How much would you spend on one, knowing that it works, matches your tail, and looks great?

Tail stand/carrying case: I think I've come up with a way to make a tail stand that will convert into a bag that you can carry your tail in safely, and travel with it. In fact, I hope that you would be able to check it as baggage when flying. It will be padded, and easy to assemble.I hope to be able to show a prototype very soon.

Also, soon to come, other mermaid themed / silicone items! :Yay:

-Wrists to elbows
-I don't know do you have a guess? I can tell you if it sounds reasonable but I couldn't tell you how much it's worth.
-that sounds fantastic!
-yay!

When I think of bracers I always thing they look most natural from wrist toward elbow, personally.

If it takes more silicone then a top would it should probably cost more so I guess a binder, somewhere between $400-$600 would probably be good?

As for the bag/stand, yes, all the more yes. I NEED THAT IN MY LIFE.

Bracers for swimming I'd say wrist to about 1/2 an inch from elbows for mobility reasons.

I like the scales flowing from wrist to elbow, and maybe not such a defined edge, so it looks like it blends into the skin more? And of course little forearm fins are always welcome (I don't fancy the bigger arm fins).

Waist cincher/binder top: YUSS. I would pay lots of money for that, about the same price as a nice corset for sure!

Tail stand: OF COURSE OMG !!! That is brilliant!

The bag/carrying case!

For the tail stand/travel case, I need to know what the average fluke measurements are... widest point across x height, with the body of the tail folded the way you would normally would. I wonder who has the biggest fluke of all?

Also, for those with long-fluked tails, do you fold over the floppy bits?

Also, for those with long-fluked tails, do you fold over the floppy bits?My fluke isn't long finned but it is floppy (that's what she said, hur hur hur). If I remember correctly it measures about 32" across. I could fold the outer part over, but I don't want to because it seems like eventually it would tear the silicone along where the monofin would be pushing against it.

I would think competitors would be the largest, I have a merbella basic w/a competitor I could give you measurements if you're curious but my next tail will have a foil.

Measurements would be great, so I can get an idea of how big (or small) to go. Thanks!

I'm having a hard time finding bags big enough for my fluke. The unfloppy part is about 28x28 inches.

Order a monofin bag at SpecialFins.com ;)
Best part is that they are in Europe so it's not too far away from you.

Pearlie, it won't let me post here because of photo dimensions, but I just shared it on my page https://www.facebook.com/212094505475204/photos/a.862670637084251.1073741831.212094505475204/912375685447079/?type=1&theater if that works for you let me know, but if you made something like this in silicone, so it was flexible with my hands I would buy that in a milisecond (pending price etc) but seriously, I'm so in love with that. and I love your tentacles necklace, I think a choker could be cool like that, shoulder wraps, also ear wraps tentacles. I know it's technically overdone, but the way some people have done it looks weird.

PearlieMae
12-18-2014, 10:50 AM
I saw that! I'm testing something, but hand/finger tentacles in silicone aren't very practical. Trying other media! :D

MermaidCelesteFL
12-18-2014, 03:31 PM
If you could add fins to your bracers, that would be even cooler!

Mermaid Kelda
12-18-2014, 04:49 PM
I'd love to see little as-is fins that you could attach to your own accessories. One could put them on a head dress, attach them to a top, use them as mer-ears, etc.

PearlieMae
12-18-2014, 07:27 PM
I just might have to sculpt some little fins! (All the ones I have now are pretty big :D )

I like the idea of fins on bracers. By the way, yours are dreamy and so shiny, Pearlie! :swoon:

I couldn't resist ordering a matching pair of fins bracers with my new tail from Finfolk. They just look so good!
It's not my pair but for those who haven't seen them, this is how Finfolk's fins bracers look like :

Pearlie, if you succeed to put fins on yours, people are so going to buy them! I believe it! ;)

How difficult are those bracers to put on? I made a test pair and had to oil up my hands like crazy!

MermaidBrandie
02-27-2015, 10:34 AM
I would prefer my scales be facing elbow to wrist. I appear to be a minority though.

I don't have a silicone tail (yet!) so i cant so much speak on the gapping issue. I love the idea though. As far as price for it: cost of materials x 2. That covers you for materials and your time. *At the least*.

Oooohhhh, I would love to see this tail bag monstrosity!

I honestly have no idea.
I swam with mermaid Crystal who owns that pair of fins bracers I previously shared. She did say it was tight but in a good way. I'm not sure but I think I saw her using lube to put them.

I was making some more scale molds last night and had extra left over, so I made this: (text is from my social media posts)

Mermaid Sisters resin pendant, made to look like cast glass! I have an antique carved jade pendant I've had forever, but it's just so heavy to wear and solid pale green, so I made a mold and cast it in urethane resin! Should I offer them in my Etsy shop?

That pendant is so pretty!!! :D The scale bracers look awesome too! It would be neat if you made a scale cuff as well, sort of like a 3-4 inch wide bracelet! Not only would it look great with a tail, but it would make a cute accessory to wear with other outfits! :)
