Pets!!

Pretty straightforward, I thought it would be cool if we could all share and talk about our animal friends :D

After growing up my whole life with "pet" on the top of my Christmas list every year, I finally brought home my beautiful Blinky just over a month ago.

Nawww lookadim!! (The Lilypad Lagoon girls will be rolling their eyes right now, I never shut up about him)

Blinky is a baby Australian Eastern Longnecked turtle and to me he's pretty much the cutest thing on the planet. He fits on the palm of my hand right now, but will grow to be up to 26cm in diameter. For the first few days he spent his time hiding underneath the filter in his tank, and now he happily dances up to me whenever I step near the tank. He's very good at distracting me from whatever I was supposed to be doing when he begged my attention :P He's also very easily entertained - here he is chasing my fingers around the tank:

I have 3 cats in my house and a few more in the barn (I rescued those off the streets!) plus some dogs and horses. All of them are sort of communal pets except for one cat whose name is Pierre. He is 22-24 lbs., has a white face with a black squiggled across his nose (that's his french mustache!) and we adore each other. He sleeps with me every night, cuddles with me when I'm sad, and just generally hangs out with me. I love him sooooo much.

So, ya. That's my cat.

My boyfriend goes to school in Scotland and in front of his dorm, tons and tons of adorable british bunnies come out to play in the evenings. I'm trying to convince him to catch one for me....

I have two dogs - Zoey and Lily, one cat - Cat, and four lizards - Desmond, Toki, Apple, and Reptar.
Zoey is a Shar pei, shiba inu, briard, and french bulldog mix. This is her:

My Family has Two Cats, Two Dogs, a Lizard and a Rat.
The dogs are Australian Silky X Maltese. Lola and her little sister Fifi (Same parents, different litter.)
The cats are Tiger (she loves everyone, a real nurse-y cat, she sleeps with anyone who is feeling sick.)
and my cat Precious (who is more a Precocious Tomboy, but she will sleep with me and an excellent mouser.)
My Brother has a Lizard (named Crocodile) and my sister has a male Rat (named Euan)

Aww, everyone has such lovely pets. :) I don't have any furry or scaly critters right now. I had house rabbits for many years, but they each passed away almost exactly a year apart from each other. One was 11 years old and one was 8. I still miss them. They were both rescues and the most amazing rabbits.

But I have a question, and I hoped maybe someone here can help? Do any of you know of a saltwater aquarist forum that you can personally recommend as having a knowledge base you can trust? There are so many forums out there... but as I learned when I had bunnies, there is a ton of misinformation out there, people who think they know things and they don't, and when it comes to an animal's life, I want to be informed as well as possible.

I'm looking into the possibility of keeping red claw or fiddler crabs and I am currently researching everything I can. If I end up with a brackish water aquarium and know what I'm doing, I'll start doing rescue* as well. Thanks ahead of time.

*rescue, meaning- I don't like to buy pets from shops, esp aquatic (I'm sure some of you know how awful the methods are that take these animals from the wild). So you let local shops know that if they get any of your specialty animal in, and one is injured or sick, they call you and instead of them tossing away that little life, you take the animal in, nurse it back to health if you can, and give it a good life. You need iso tanks and a lot of knowledge, but it has to start somewhere. I've known people who do this with various fish.

Does that thing hurt?

My friend had a hedgehog. It was prickly like a comb or a pineapple. The spines are pointy and hard, but they aren't razor sharp. If you took one and jabbed yourself with it hard enough, you could probably break skin, but its fine to pick them up and hold them.
