Hi! I'm Jordyn, I am 13 years old and a new mermaid. Sadly all of my tails are from fin fun.. all of my 1 tail. I was really hoping to make some mermaid friends and sisters on here because mermaids aren't really accepted were I live. Does anyone know where I could find a silicone for under 600? If so that would be awesome!!! Please msg me if you have any questions.

Don't like your fin fun? I was thinking that would be my first tail (ignoring the one I made that sucked).

Unfortunately I'm not thinking you'll be able to find a silicone tail under 600. Due to the cost of the materials and such. Unless the tail has been used quite a bit and the seller is trying to rid of it. Most silicone tails are well over 1,000.. however I would consider looking at fifi's tails, I think hers are around your price range:)

heck, you're going to spend at least $600 in supplies alone to make one.

If not more.... I calculated mine out before I started buying the stuff for it, and with the monofin (because I'm just too lazy to make my own) the stupid thing came out to over $900 (and I already have a lot of supplies needed because of my cosplay stuff)
Also, Jordyn, if you look around the site, you'll notice the community usually recommends fabric tails for mers your age because you're still growing. So even if you could find a silicone tail for that cheap (which would be a serious buyer beware situation, because silicone tails that price are usually very shoddy/not real silicone/not by a legitimate tailmaker), it's actually better to forgo it and put the money into a savings situation so that when you stop growing (I stopped growing around 17 or 18, some girls stop closer to 20 or 21) you have that money to get a silicone tail you can keep for years, instead of just until your next growth spurt. (And considering the tails can take 6-9 months to make, you also run the risk of ordering the tail to one set of measurements, then having a growth spurt, then getting a tail that doesn't fit you to begin with).
Just some things to think about if you're not content with your fabric tail. You'd probably be a lot sadder with a silicone tail you stopped fitting in.

I found one! I found the mertailor basic silicon for 530 so that's the one I'm ordering. Also I see what you are saying about how I'm still growing but I hit my growth spurt at 11 and I was informed by my doctor that I will stop growing at 14 or 15.

Where do you live in Jersey?
How long have you been swimming in a Fin Fun? Are you a strong swimmer?

Welcome, Jordyn.
I have to say, I concur with what Anahita said.
Also, would you be able to take care of your tail yourself? Tails need paint maintenance, deep cleaning, repairs in the silicone... You should be able to do that yourself or you will expend a fortune shipping your tail to and from the tail maker.
With the things I have learned from perusing these forums, I don't think I'll ever be ordering a silicone tail, because it is just too much hassle for me, since I am only a hobbyist and will not be doing professional gigs.

Also, be wary of the Mertailor tails. There's been plenty of mers who got those 500 dollar ones and found out that
1. they're not silicone (and definitely not silicon, because that's what's used to make microchips ;) )
2. they stretch and fall apart quickly
3. smell strongly of chemicals (several ubboxing videos of these on youtube where the girls make note of the smell)
4. the paint scrapes and peels
Raina had one and it had to be repaired constantly (which costs money, even if you do it yourself). Over the long run, you'll be spending way more than $600 to repair it, easily. The next price up (the $900 ones he has) might be worth saving for instead. (From what I've heard of the people who got those ones, they seem to like them better. But they're also a brand new type of tail, and I don't know if anyone's had one for a full year - which is when tails really start to show their flaws)

I live 5 miles outside of NYC and I have been swimming in fin fun for 2 years. I swim competitively during the summer

I really see what you are saying but the thing is I won't be swimming in it on a regular basis. Living where I do it will mostly be used in the small pool in my backyard or the town one, I'm not a professional mermaid or anything

Well ultimately it's your decision, and I hope it works well for you!
We mers are a little wary about tails that have gone wrong for people in the past, but we're absolutely happy to be proved wrong. No one wants you to get a tail you aren't happy with! Fingers crossed it's the perfect tail for you :)
