View Full Version : Miyu and the Titania- A Silicone Tail

Miyu has kindly agree to take one of my first silicone tails. While the scale sheets are still in progress, I figured I would get started on her fluke sculpt. Some might be able to guess the design by the name, and for those who can't it is a fairy wing inspired fluke shape. Keeping along with the inspirations, the fluke shape is a bit smaller, is wing shaped, and will have insect like veining. We are still discussing colors, though we are leaning towards Pandora inspired colors. Bright, possibly some glowing spots, etc.
I'll be posting progress as I go, even though progress will be slow. Working on making alterations to the fluke pattern now to adjust for a different monofin :)

Couldn't find my stock of poster board, probably still packed somewhere, so its a good thing I hang onto 90% of my scraps :)
Here's how it looks so far. I'm going to get the vein design drawn out before I start putting clay on it, going to work one little section at a time.
26060
Roughly 26inches at its widest spot
26061
And roughly 23inches (22 once scales are attaches) from top to tips
26062
26063
Its going to be a tiny fluke compared to the others I'm working on :) But it fits the inspiration

Those pictures came out a bit bigger than I thought, and even AFTER I sized them down 25% from the original :headwall: Lol

Ooh this is a pretty fluke! Are you hoping to sell tails in the future?

Yes I am :) Miyu's is the second of 3 prototypes, cause she's local so I an get my fitting right. 3rd is across the country so I can see if I can get the fit right on someone that isn't close enough to visit for a fitting.
And :O Pearlie commented on my thread! -fangirl- I LOVE your tail. I'm going to order a tail from you one day, when I can afford to :headwall:
*Shrieks* YAY WOOHOO :yay: I mean, of course I'm not going to turn down a custom-fit silicone tail, haha! I'm super-grateful for the opportunity, because I already know how detail-oriented you are with tails, so I know that even your prototypes are going to be awesome!
It's kind of fitting that it be a smaller fluke, though, because I mean... I'm pretty petite, I might have trouble holding up a huge silicone fluke right now, LOL!
I like the bigger size pics! Better to see/compare detail with. :) I also like how the leftover paint underneath the fluke is kind of my colours already, heehee...
I, too, shall be getting a tail from PearlieMae eventually someday... ;)

Lol. Yeah, I'm a bit of a perfectionist. Can't wait to get to painting yours :) hopefully I'll be able to buy a back up air gun and compressor to attempt to paint yours with it (after testing of course).
Haha well we're both perfectionists in our crafting... :p I can't wait to see, you make such pretty sculpts!

Can't wait to see your future flukw sculpts! (: By the time you get all of this perfected I'll have my tail fund filled up so I may be one of your first customers!

Got the veining drawn :) love how it looks so far. Going to stay sculpting section by section soon.

Made a trace of the veining on one side to make sculpting easier. Using my noodle press to make clay sheets, then cutting out each section. Then I'll use the lines between the pieces to mark when the veins should be :)

Wow! That's beautiful! I can't wait to see it in 3D! One thing to keep in mind...watch the center of the fluke, that it doesn't end up looking...ummm...vulva-esque. Unless that's the look you're going for! That's why I added the second heart to mine!
You are too cute! Fangirl...You crack me up!

Hehe, yeah. I'm going to keep the middle part smooth, and it's going to be a bit thinner than the edges.
trying to find time to slowly work on this while working on orders

I got to see the beginnings of the sculpt on New Year's Eve! :) IT IS GOING TO BE AWESOME!!! I think Morticia's figured out a good way to avoid the vulva-esque fluke problem (though TBH I don't really mind that much personally, I think it will look completely different once it's done up in colours).

Progress so far. Not much, trying to balance orders and new stuff. Orders seem to be taking over, lol.
