So I'm working on a second tail, made out of red stretch velvet, red metallic non-stretch, gold metallic non-stretch, and sheer black. I'm at the point where I need to decide which fluke option I should go for:

26089

(sorry for my bad artwork)

The long trailing bits of red will be covering some nice marine-grade rope I have, to give it some body and flow. It will run along the edge of the entire monofin and end where my ankle fins (dark red bullion fringe) begin.

The red metallic will open with velcro to insert the monofin (my Hydra), and the gold will trail behind that (one layer only).

Option A is attaching a single layer of sheer black to the end of the gold, somewhat like the Mertailor spandex tails. This is the easier option.

Option B is to cut "windows" in the red metallic fabric of the fluke, install the sheer fabric underneath the red, and have both layers (one on each side of the monofin) come out between the red metallic layers and surrounding the gold (I wouldn't sew it down so that it could billow around the gold and reveal flashes of gold.

Any opinions? Any other fluke option ideas?

I do like option B an awful lot. I know it's more work, but I think it'll add a very neat flair and detail to it that sometimes is missing in fabric tails.

Haha I was thinking the same thing too... give it a more realistic look and show off the clear monofin a bit! I didn't now if it would seem too gaudy, though :p

It's a mermaid tail, it's pretty hard to over-do them. Especially since you're not planning on like, bedazzling it waist to tail or something after the fact.

Yeah, agreed. It's very hard to make a tail look over-done. It's very easy, however, to make a boring tail. If you can be bothered, I'd definitely go for the second image!

I agree with the prevailing opinion: option B would be spectacular! I like the idea of windows revealing the translucent Hydra.

Both options look great!

I'm not sure if I would dare to make a windowed fabric.
With water drag and all, it might be prone to fray and be less stable than a solid sheet.
