if there is already a thread about this please go ahead and link me to it and I can try and delete this one. otherwise I just wanted to ask what everybody does if they don't have a mertender? although I'm sure I can often coordinate around my boyfriend and if not him can work out something with friends & family... but what if nobody is available when I have an event? or what happens if the cancel last minute? do any of you have a back up plan for safety/ getting out of the water and to the car without people seeing?

If you have a gig or event ask whoever is coordinating the event to provide an assistant for you. That's what I did at one of my events and it worked out fine

The first event I ever did, I didn't have a mertender. The adults at the event I was doing were more than happy to play the role. They took care of all my stuff, carried me to and from the pool in my tail, and they even gave me walking tacos when the food and cake were being served to the kids. I'm sure if you didn't have a mertender for your gigs you can find someone there who would love to be a mermaid's assistant for a few hours. :)

I suppose that works. Of course I'm sure having a team member would be best hah. But good to have a back up.

Otherwise you could try to organise to be there before everyone and then leave after everyone, so you can get in and out of your tail in the one place. Won't always work logistically, but I've heard of it working for mers in the past.

I have never had a mertender and have been doing things professionally for a year without one. I rely on getting there early, distractions and conveniently placed sheets and visual barriers! I end up swimming a lot because I will often get ready a long way away and swim in from afar when I'm at the beach!

Yes I don't have a mertender as well so its something I was also worried about.

I put it in my booking contract that I need two people to carry me, and then have one adult that I can have grab items for me or move my treasure chest, it works really well, as I had to figure out something when my husband was deployed.

Great thread! I'll be mertender-less as well so these are helpful.
