Hello fellow mermaids(and men!)
I'm relatively new to this community but I want to become more involved. While I'm not able to make tails or show off anything yet, I still want to help. I love seeing other people enjoying the hobby just as much as enjoying it myself!:dance:
So, that being said, I am going to put forth some of my own personal mermaid tail designs. Each one will have a new and unique theme. Some will be inspired by real creatures and some just for looking cool.
If you would like to use my designs message me or comment (whatevs either works) but bear in mind that I hold the rights to the designs and have the right to distribute and use it how I see fit. Plus make sure to give me credit. Otherwise I would love to share some designs.
Also! I will create a design for you if you like! Since I'm new I will do a few for free but if I receive a big demand for it I will have to charge. Also I will contact you if I accept your commission. So dont just say "draw me one" and get angry when it never shows up!:headdesk:And I have school so please give me time!

This one I call Lumina. I wanted to capture the bioluminescence of anglerfish but.... Prettier ya know?
I'm thinking about maybe trying a black version with the glowing spots? *hard thinking*

I would definitely go with the black version with the luminescent paint. A whole tail would be more than costly, but would be pretty cool too :D

If you're going to use other colours, use more blue than shades of green, also! I'd use a steely blue...it would look great with black....I'd use greenish colours for spots etc.

Finally finished the angler inspired tail with darker colours. I definitely like this better! Thanks JamesGunnels for the advice! I hope I understood your suggestions correctly.
Now I'm off to start another (after a snack break of course! ;P)

Sorry the glow looks a little funny. For some reason when I convert the files into jpeg detail like that plummets in quality.

Ok I'll admit I got a bit lazy but there's only so much you can do with an orca!
I'm thinking maybe the dorsal would work better on the butt but (Lol) I felt it would get in the way of sitting. No idea how to make it stand up but I feel like there was a thread on here about it... Somewhere

BTW Yes I know that Blue Spotted stingrays don't have wings like that. CREATIVE LICENSE!!!

I really like the black Lumina followed by the Glide, the orca one reminds me of an orca trying to eat someone lol but it's a unique take on the orca tail

The only problem with this one is that the fluke wouldn't be large enough to get any real push for the swimmer. I really do like the idea though.

The Lumina design could possibly be done as a fabric tail. I may try working something up. I have a silver/gray skin that I was gonna cover in sequins but I'm not sure I have the patience just know for all those sequins.

I don't think anybody else has said this but I think the first and/or second tail design you posted (the anglerfish inspired ones) would look AWESOME if you somehow made it out of latex or silicone and embedded little LED lights. Like a real light up tail. I'm sure they make really small battery operated ones that are waterproof.

It is lovely! I think the only changes would be a little less orange at the bottom and maybe a bit more white in the mid-section. I'm not sure the picture of the flower I send you was the best example but it is what I had on my phone.

I also sent you a PM with measurements so seeing this design more to scale for me would be awesome.

I can't thank you enough for doing this! You are talented in ways I'm not and it's cool to see an idea so realistic on a computer screen before spending big money on it to be done in silicone.

That's awesome! I have great news too. I got my W2 from my boss this morning and it looks like I'll be getting back a pretty penny putting me SUPER close to what I need to get me a spot on MerNation's tail list. I just can't wait to file my refund!!!

So I had actually finished this one before but had never got around to posting it, then my computer decided to crash while I was finalizing it and I lost the whole thing. So I went back and re-did it because after some reflection, I realized I could do it better. (So this is kind of a "tail 2.0 version") And so here is my idea of a Selkie! Now I am going to leave this open for anyone to use, but I do want to mention that i have plans to make this my own personal tail at some point. So that being said, I would ask that you change the designs for it or something so it's not a copy, but you are welcome to use the seal shape as much as you want.
This is an idea I had because I cannot afford to make a silicone tail, I thought about a neoprene and I thought the texture would fit a seal or sea lion really well.

So I have been busy will school and all but I due to me not feeling well I had some time to do some art for fun for once. I know that not many people view these and that's fine, but I continue to post here anyway cause it makes me happy ;P
So I've learned more about how to appropriately use photoshop tools and have sort of upgraded my technique of tail design.
This is one I just finished called Shipwreck. I was going for a non conventional sharky, "I'm going to drown you and eat you" vibe.

My new pressure foot arrived today. It's a hemmer foot which is one I didn't have. I'll finish the sewing this weekend and take pictures to share.

I can't wait to see your tail. I've always wanted to see how someone would do a selkie tail. At some point, I think I'll end up making one, probably based on a harbor seal.

I'm finally getting around to make a tail inspired by your artisticness. Below is the test swatch for the paint colors and material. It's a dark nay spandex. The paint is fresh so I may have to do two or three coats to get those exact color results when dry.

Heh..... soooooo yeah I've been gone for a while now... School and life got in the way as they tend to do so very often.
