New to the forum (obviously haha) and its really been over the last year or so that I was even aware people made tails or that there was even a whole community behind it! I'm super excited to have stumbled into the pool. I guess you can say I'm learning how to swim into the mer community by joining the forum here.

Okay, well, I little about me:

Name: Just call me Sarkatsha. Its the name I use for my cetacean art and it will have to do until I come up with a mermaid name/character. (Mersona?)
Age: Thirties. (Just put me out with the tide, its all good. Get offa' my reef and all that.)
Gender: Who knows! I'm a fan of androgyny.
Tail: I do not own one, but think it would be awesome! If I one day find myself able to have one made, it would probably be something like an orca/flying fish combination, or just an orca.
What I Do: I do artwork. I've been involved in a couple of other fandom communities and art is usually what I'm known for. Until making friends anyways, then I'm just me! :D
Dream Job: Something to do with whales and orca. I'd love to be a naturalist on a whale watching boat, or to make a living painting them.
Where I Am: Currently in Florida (Space Coast) with dreams about moving to Washington State (north of Seattle, coastal area.) I like Maine too (Lubec!) And Alaska. I enjoy rocky, northern coastlines where the odds are higher for me to see whales.
Other Hobbies: I garden here and there. I love traveling opportunities, especially to places with coastlines or that involves being on the water, like cruises. (Not that I get to go on them much!) I like to get creative with home decorating. I write. I'll get crafting urges. Swimming is my favorite form of exercise. And I have several cats that I like to annoy. ;)

And I guess some newbie questions:

1) Is there any place in the forums for non-tail-making artists to congregate? And if not on this forum, are there other places one can point me towards?
2) Where are the cetacean merfolk? I know you're out there. :)

I guess that's it!

Welcome to the forum! I live in the Seattle area, let me know if you ever move out this way! It's beautiful here! I took my husband on a whale-watching trip for his birthday present, but we didn't see any orcas, just humpbacks (he's never seen an orca before). I think working as a naturalist on a whale tour boat would be awesome!

Haha, will do! It'll take some time I'm sure. Its a looong way from Florida!

I love it out there. I've visited several times, once in the Seattle area and another trip that was spent mostly in Anacortes and then in the San Juan Islands. Saw orcas from Lime Kiln lighthouse on San Juan Island and then did a whale watch out of Friday Harbor and saw them again! :D What made it extra neat was that I got to see the one I adopted at The Whale Museum the day prior. I wanna go back there so bad.

Welcome, Sarkatsha! (Sark? Kat? Sha? Sarka? Should I stop?)
Cetacean mers do exist! Some are just in hiding ;) you will see a few orca tails if you dig through the forum.
By non-tail-making artists, do you mean non-mermaid-related art? If so, you could stick a thread in the "Just Talk!" section.
If it's still mermaid-related, you could put it in "Everything Else", where there're a few artwork threads already.

@Mermaid Melaina Hehe, my name is a little weird. Back when I was looking for a name to use for my sea art, I wanted something that sounded whale-ish and ended up using the first 3 letters of my first/middle/last name, then smashing them altogether. :)

What I meant by non-tail-making was more or less drawing/painting/illustrating. Still with the mermaid theme though! I shall check out the Everything Else section! Thank you!

I wasn't implying it was a weird name, I just want to know how I can shorten it! :D
Not everyone likes having a nick name though! I just wanted to check.

Have you seen the Dol-fin monofin yet? I've heard it's a good fin and it's shape like a dolphin's fluke (as the name implies). Also, I believe that Mahina Merfins is planning to release a cetacean monofin sometime (soon?) I know I've seen pictures of a very handsome orca merman on their website http://www.mahinamermaid.com/ but the website seems to have changed so now I don't see it.

@Mermaid Melaina Oh no worries, I didn't take it that way. I am just sort of aware its kind of odd sounding. I've had the occasional question asked. XD

@Tieri Aw thanks! I used to draw mermaids aaaaaall the time (before I got online) but the habit got lost in the shuffle so I need to play catch up!

@Theobromine You know, I may have run across it before, but the name didn't stick. I'm no where near able to buy a fin yet so I haven't been looking into them too much (cause its torture!) I will probably cave soon though now that I'm on the forum. :D

Welcome to the community! I'm in the Kissimmee/St.Cloud area of Florida, and work for THE MOUSE. You're not too far away from me!

I noticed you're heavily into drawing mermaids?! That's great! I love commissioning people to draw my mersona! That's one of the big things about my fb fanpage is that I feature independent artists and their interpretations of my mersona, and sometimes let them draw my followers as well.

Also, I'm looking into making an Orca tail for a friend of mine in the future. I have a finis rapid and 4 way stretch wet-looking black spandex. Making tails are not hard, and shouldn't be all that expensive either!

@MermaidCelesteFL I think I'd be about an hour away? I'm in Rockledge.

Yeah, I used to draw them a LOT more but am currently getting back into it. I'm kind of drifting away from another fandom at the moment and have been getting into more sea life, cetaceans especially, and mermaids seem to be something I can enjoy drawing right along with that! :D I shall have to check out your FB page!
