(Side note: It seems to almost always be a small red flag when someone claims to "be the first" or "only" of something. The only time I have seen it used right is mermaid syrena and that is only because she found out she was the first person in her area to have a silicone mermaid tail.)

Everything gets more complicated when developmental issues come into play. Yes, he probably doesn't realize what he's doing is inappropriate, but yes, what he's doing is wrong...and really fuckin' creepy. I hope something gets resolved, one way or another.

This man lives in my area within 2 minutes and has chased me. Once when I was with my best friend and her two babies. Its not libel or slander. Its not opinion. Its what happened to me. I expect he wasn't online for so long because of the police and his caregiver. I expect something in his circumstances has somehow changed. I will not hesitate to reopen my file if he continues.

As a teacher myself, I can only imagine how scary that was for you, kids being involved! It sounds like you have a good handle on the situation however, atta girl!

2 - Wait...Arion is deaf? NEAT! Arion, Do you use sign language I assume? Do you know how it differes from American Sign Language? I know there are differences, but I am not sure how notable they are.... I am contemplating getting back into my sign language classes... Totally awesome for communicating underwater :)

I agree... This is Creepy. Being the "first deaf merman" (of which he isn't, see Merman Arion and well myself as a mermaid) does not instantly grant you a "woe is me" and "I'm so great" status in this community. Block this person immediately if you encounter him online. Raina that's terrifying. Now I'm glad I deleted my facebook account a few days ago. Yeah It's jut too creepy out there.

He came to my place of work, followed me around the store, threatened employees when they would not give out my personal info, and then phoned in a complaint to head office saying people were discriminating against him and wouldnt help him find his book -_- he saw me several times in public, and physically chased me. Once I was with my bestie and her 3 kids, one was a baby in a stroller at the time. I couldn't go out by myself he lived in the area and would follow me whenever he saw me out in public. It was really scary.

I want to make it clear that aside from slandering me online, I have had no physical contact with him recently that I feel was intentional (I do see him occasionally but I am with Sean and he does not approach) since the police addressed the issue. I am only telling everyone about this because I do not believe he is mentally all there and I say this in the most considerate way possible, I think he's living in another world if you know what I mean. I dont believe he understands or respects boundaries. I was quite worried about his personal safety when he was telling me about wearing a merman tail (before I realized his obsession with me I responded kindly to his fan mail) he said at the time he couldn't swim. Then he started phoning me (the newspaper published my full name) using a service for the deaf 100s of times a day and started emailing 100s of times a day and freaking out when I didnt respond. It escalated very very very quickly, and he became very obsessed. He started adding kids I knew who followed my FB page on FB. In his email, all his personal info was included so I used it to try and contact all of his family that I could find online before I went to the police. I was trying to be considerate of his disability. but no one responded and after he started chasing me around in public I just gave up and called the police.

My point is, this man is smart enough to take a small bit of your information (in my case, my legal name published in a news article) and track down other things ( my phone number, my email, my place of work, where I lived- I have since become much more careful with what is online because of this experience) and while most of you he can't physically come around you because he lives here, he can still express those obsessive behaviours with you. It all seemed good and innocent to me. I treated him like I would Arion- a new merman friend who happened to be deaf. But he imagined a relationship with me that was not there. He was not someone I could speak to the way you can an average person. He would take too much from the very little I said, and become obsessed.

I put this up here because it actually scared me to see him posting in the mermaid groups. This is not just some online mervert or collector to me. This is a physical person who lives a few minutes from me in the exact same area, that I see in public, who physically stalked me. It was my very first news article and my first real experience with an obsessed 'fan'. I wont even humor him going on about me discriminating against the deaf, since I have hearing loss myself, friends and family with hearing loss and deaf- it's just ridiculous and the only defence he can come up with. He admits in his posts online that he 'doesn't do those things anymore' suggesting that he did them at one time.

So people, I am not encouraging a witch hunt, or being mean to the guy, I am sharing my cautionary tale and suggesting you all excersise caution with this individual, and please do not encourage anything with him that would jeoprodize my personal safety. I'm already documenting everything he's saying about me online, with him being local I actually can charge him with slander/libel. I am a well known person here, and it's not okay for him to tell everyone I am discriminating against him because he is deaf. However, I will not pursue police action unless he once again resumes stalker behaviour.

restraining orders. He's local. He's not legally allowed to approach me right now. They made it clear to him that the phone calls, emails, and following in public combined together were against the law. The officer I dealt with was fantastic and handled it very well. He understood the sensitivity of it all, but still made things clear.
