Hi, I want to come up with a water nymph type outfit and makeup based on easily obtained modern clothes, jewelry and perhaps face paint. I want to do some water themed mythology and fairy tale type story telling in an outfit that calls to mind "water nymph" or "mermaid" without being a full blown costume, perhaps. Auduence may consist of adults. I have a simple costume but am not sure I can actually use it. I need something I can wear out in public, then maybe do a quick tweaking of before I go "onstage."
FYI when giving suggestions- I am short, overweight have long blonde hair and wear glasses. My budget is extremely limited.
Here's a beautiful Waterhouse-inspired Nymph costume I saw done a while ago:

She posts info on how she made it as well! It's one of my most favorite costumes I've ever seen, and it inspires me constantly with what is attainable with simple fabric and draping.

Miyu, it is gorgeous! The hair things, the drapy blouse... Perfect picture of a water nymph. I would have to go simpler, but it's definately an eye opener as to what can be done.
I knooooow this girl was so genius with this costume, I seriously am in love with it! I really love what can be done with a few simple things, and it's very open for customization! I'm considering making something similar for myself, since I have a deep, deep love for water nymphs and Nixies...
Little Jewel, please do post pics of your version - I'd love to see what you come up with!

Have you tried looking at pinterest for ideas? I recommend it. :) For makeup, I took some wine bottle netting, laid it over my face, took a makeup sponge and decorated the sides of my face blue. For me, it's really quick to do.

Faded jeans or bellbottoms for a flowing, but patchwork, look? Maybe a shawl or flowing scarf or sashes?
