So, I have a question. Did anyone feel a bit nervous to go on their first swim? I am close to being able to afford my first tail. But I don't know where is a good place to go for my first swim. Is it better to go to a public pool?

Most people are nervous before their first tailswim ;)
You should go wherever you feel safe to swim, and where you can bring your tail.
Having someone with you to help you in case you need it is also a good idea.
I second that on making sure you have someone with you just incase. When I first put on a monofin in the water I had my boyfriend with me. I put it on while sitting on the pool steps. Then I wasn't sure what to do, so I just sat there haha. He picked me up off of the steps and held me in the pool and I moved the monofin a little then I told him to let go and then I flipped over and just started swimming. I am sure my technique isn't right yet, but you don't have to struggle to swim you just do.
Also bring a camera so the person with you can take photos or video of your first swim!
I think a lot of people take their first swim in a swimming pool. I took my first swim recently at my college's pool since it is bigger than my Grandma's pool and since it is cold outside and they keep the pool heated (sort of). It is nice to be able to have the pool ladder to be able to hold onto and the edges of the pool to hold onto. It can be tiring swimming like a mermaid. I swam in the shallow end and then the next time when I put my tail on and swam for the first time I was in a bit deeper water.
I was nervous but because I swam in the monofin previously, I was less nervous and more excited than anything.
If you are saving up for a silicone tail then I can't say what a first swim in one of those would be like. I guess a silicone tail would be tighter - and warmer!
Thanks! I'm saving for a silicone tail. I can't wait to place my order. I just moved here a year ago. My hubby is military so we got station way up in Alaska... So indoor pools are all the option I've got. I'm just slightly nervous, my hubby thinks I'm silly but supports me anyway. I wish I had someone up here who already has their own tail to swim with me. Again, thanks guys for answering!
The first time I swam in my fabric tail it took a few minutes to get used to having my legs bound, but because I always did the dolphin kick anyway it wasn't too bad. My silicone tail may be another matter lol. I would say, try a pool first.
