postponing my tail for a little bit to make a hybrid spandex, latex tail...possible?

Alright! So, I have been seeing a few hybrid tails around here. I'll be using a Finis monofin and this really awesome spandex:

My friend Cindie is having me make a mermaid tail! And I am super excited. We ordered the monofin and the scale design spandex, but we wanna make a more realistic fluke...so we wanna use latex! I know it is possible, but, after the fluke cures, how does one really attach the spandex to the fluke? Also, what is the best, cheapest latex to buy. I think a gallon will suffice since it's just the fluke. I am sure it's been discussed in the forums, and I don't need any really detailed replies, just some tips here and there would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks!

Alright, so today we ordered the RD 407 Latex needed to make the fluke and side fins/dorsal fin. A gallon is definitely gonna be enough from what I was told. Excited!

My best advice would be some e6000. I've found that E6000 actually makes a stronger bond than using more latex as "glue"

You could also try pressing the edges of the spandex that need to be bonded to the fluke into wet latex and letting it soak in, then cure. Latex bonds best to more latex, and not so well to plain fabric.

Alternatively, you could put something like powermesh in the latex and leave an exposed fabric edge, then sew the spandex to that.

So today I got in my gallon of the RD 407 Latex that I am going to need to make the fluke for my friends tail! I am trying it out right now by a small side fin I made. Hopefully it'll turn out the way I hope it will.

Okay! So, here in the fluke design! Just your normal Spalsh design. I haven't put any detail into it, because I'd prefer to do it during the sculpting process...which will hopefully begin tonight if I can get the fiberglass resin from Home Depot. We'll see.

Alright, so here's the first little fin I finished. It isn't that great...but, as a first time latex user etc. I did a good job I think :D I am currently setting a an ankle fin in fiberglass resin! It should be done soon, so pictures to come!

So, here's the ankle fin I've been working on...I still need to make the "mirror image" of the fin, but I am proud of it :D
