There was a thread a while back where someone was re purposing plastic bags into a "sequin" tail. I loved the idea of up cycling. I was wondering if you all think it'd be possible to do something similar but with used gift cards. I work at a Starbucks and we have a whole bag of cards that would have otherwise been thrown away. They might be a bit thick for a hole punch, but that was my first thought.
A tail made out of Starbucks cards would be like mermaid-squared....mermaid-ception?!
Really though. That's a cool idea if you could find a heavy-duty hole punch to handle the plastic. Starbucks makes such pretty gift cards and I always feel bad throwing them in the recycling bin...

Oh wow! That guitar pick puncher is perfect! I'd have to find a way to punch a smaller hole too, for stitching. But I'm sure they make heavy duty regular hole punches; I remember a lot of people putting holes in their id cards in college.
The cards are super pretty! I went through them today, and the majority are green or tan, but there's enough variety to make an interesting patern of some kind lol
I'm excited to see how this turns out. I love the idea of it!
I organized them into color batches. I think I'm gonna go for it! I've been looking up heavy duty hole punches, plus that cool guitar pick one.

1/8th of an inch holes are tiny, and I honestly don't think that kind of a punch would go through the plastic very easily. :/ Your hands would probably get sore after just a couple.
I think your best bet would be that guitar pick punch, or some kind of device that uses heat to cut them out. How do people laser cut things? I remember I had a Hello Kitty bow necklace made of thick acrylic I bought off of Etsy that had been lasercut...

A hammer and nail would probably be enough to make your holes.
Laser cutters are quite expensive. Most cost nearly as much as a silicone tail! The cheapest I've seen is $800.

Okay yeah, forget that idea then. Haha. I was even thinking of heating up a tear-drop shaped cookie cutter or something and using that...but the guitar pick punch is probably a way safer/more realistic idea.Quote:

Not yet, I have to order the guitar pick punch first. I'll bring the cards home tomorrow though! Still need an idea on how to attach the scales.
http://www.amazon.com/Badge-Hole-Slo.../dp/B0006M648E I think this might be too big of a hole but it is meant for ID cards which is that same material as gift cards. Its also fairly cheap around $13. I think this gift card tail idea is fintastic and I cant wait to see it come to life!
