Next Issue of Tail Flip

Hey everyone! Looking for input on what you'd like to see in the next issue of Tail Flip !

We've got a few things lined up and people we'll be contacting (like KL as our featured author!) but we'd love your input and ideas and volunteers for writing articles and being interviewed.

The last one took us December and January to put together, and we put it out in feb. I am thinking this one would go out end of March beg of April- so a spring issue!

Sirena's following a few ideas she had for articles and I had that we didnt get to do last time, but despite all our hard work I still feel like we have less than what we could of! So let's push the envelope! :) You can write here in the forum, contact either of us on here, or email.

We'll have a Mer of the month poll in a bit too :)

great aqua, yeah, for an add You can design your own by sending us text and an image and Sirena will format it so it fits, or I believe for a small fee she can design an awesome add for you! You can send me along your article, if you're showing any images in it please link where they originally come from, that way we can properly site everything <3

Have you thought of doing like a page featuring mermaid art or pictures? I think that'd be interesting, since we seem to have quite a few artists on here

I loved the first issue! Finally got to take a look at it and it's awesome! <3 I'm sure the second issue will be even better!!

yes, I tried to do that for the first one, but didnt get enough people replying with permission for us to show their work!

Would articles which take a strong conservation stance be too, I dunno, political for your mag? I posted a note on my mer-page's wall on Sunday briefly explaining why I take the strong stance I do against seafood: Why I Promote Abstaining From Seafood, which I think is written in a way that would work well for a magazine article, but I realize that the subject matter is not something everyone agrees with obviously, and I'm already gonna be the featured author for the next issue so I don't want ppl to get Kae-Leah-ed out ;).

I'm attempting to open an etsy store here pretty soon, so I might ask for an add position, if that's okay.

I think possibly an article about mer jewelry would be interesting. I think Aqua said something about a fashion article...

I would also be more than willing to help edit and or write any parts of the magazine. A good majority of my friends use me as a proof-reader already.

I would love to have any part in help with the magazine. I think it might be a bit too early but for like a summer (or late summer or whenever you have it finished) issue, I think it would be cool to have an article about some wild and crazy place or expireince someone had while mermaiding. For this issue, I think you should promote a lot of tail makers cause summers coming and everything and everyone wants tails to swim in. Also, have a lot of prescheduled events on one page so people know how to plan their summer. It would be really cool if you had a page for people to give shoutouts or something like that as well. You could put in a page or few about what each pod is planning, if anything. Pages on mermaid makeup ideas and jewelry would be awesome! I know we have forums about this stuff, but to see the best and highest voted on ideas in a magazine would make it easier for those who either can't find or don't know about those forums to see these ideas. Is it possible to have a page dedicated to the pod crests tht were (and I think still are) being worked so hard on? Just some ideas that I wanna throw out there...

I would really love to help out if you've got room!! Would love to write something for the magazine, although exactly what might take some brainstorming. Happy to help in any other way I can though :)

I'm kind of a 'one trick pony', but if you can think of a way for me to help, I'd be glad to.

What about a section for mermaid accessories? Many fashion magazines have a section about cool new clothing or accessories, why not for mermaids? What I am thinking of would be a half page of items found online (with website info and prices included in the item description) that would be great findings for mermaids. If you want, I could send you a visual of what I'm talking about. And if no one has time it up I would be more than happy to, it would be wuick and esy for me!:)

Since my mer meetup and the mermaids in the desert meetup will be done by the time we're looking to publish the next one, I am thinking there will be an article on each of those from the perspective of people who went, along with photos. But certainly a theme we can continue.

We can only post what people submit to us. Sirena and I go looking for stuff but its a lot easier said than done, so if people have events they want included for upcoming they need to contact us or post here.

The thing Im trying to stay away from is, Raina and Sirena write everything. Then it's not a community magazine, it's the Raina/Sirena magazine. We certainly dont mind submitting our own articles but we spend a lot of time just to collect/format everything we can't possibly write about all of these topics. This is the COMMUNITY magazine, so we need the community to help. Of course, we found interviewing helped move articles along. If you have something specific you think we could interview you about we can certainly do that.

IN addition to all of your ideas, here's what I'd like to aim for as far as articles IN ADDITION

- How to write a post a review

-tail making culture and the best way to place an order with a talk maker

-tips for going pro (there's a thread about this I'd like to turn into an article)

-Forum faces (photos from around the forum)

-photos from the florida and LA meetup

-How to talk and work with kids + photos from events where some of us have worked with kids

-A guide to being a "mertender"

-A profile page of mermaids for hire and their contact

-interview with Carolyn Turgeon (she's agreed to let me interview her)

-Interview with KL about her story

-a collage of celebrity mermaid pics and adds

-continued horoscope

- continued mer of the month

Also, Sirena has some stuff she's been planning for too.

I would be willing to do the accessories page/article. Where do I sign up? And do I need to get permission from people selling their items online to promote their goods?

Permission is always good (and encouraged), if it's promoting their goods I see no reason why they would decline. However if they are unreachable or never respond as long as proper credit is given I see no reason that is should be a problem. Odds are very slim of there being any type of problem and if there ever is it is easily fixable.
