This might sound a little weird, but for those of you that swim regularly, how much exercise do you get with all that tail pumping?
you can get alot out of it. you get a surprisingly good workout for the calves and abs.i saw in a thermogram that the calves do alot of the work and read in an article that its the snapping motion at the ankles that gives you the propulsion.

Swimming with the monofin I felt it more in my legs than abs... I might not be doing it right.
No matter what way you do it, it's a big workout. If you do it wrong, you're just working yourself out more.
Already have a cut on the top of my foot. I also felt it in my arms, from staying afloat in the deep end.
Attachment 2007 this is the lower body thermo scan of a swimmer doing a dolphin kick. there is more to this study but i will post that later.
as you can see, the calves are most active while the abs are less active.
