Hey guys!
I just purchased my first tail and it's coming for x mas!!! :yay::dance:
Anyway, its a magic tail and its the blue color
I'm going to Mexico for spring break and I was wondering if I could use this tail in the ocean. I've heard that they are very delicate. So if any of you have a magic tail.. please reply! Thanks!
They make their tails out of spandex, which is basically what the padding in bathing suits are covered in. So yes, you can totally bring it to Mexico! Just be careful around reefs and rocks because like all fabric, it can snag. I wouldn't say they're SUPER delicate, but if you rub them the wrong way (pun intended) they will tear a little.
I've heard the Magictail "monofin" can split with strenuous use but I've never used one before so I don't know for certain!
The tails themselves (fabric) would be no problem.
I have 2, and after a few pool swims, the monofins both broke just from the leg movement alone.
I didn't swim very hard either!
So yea, the monofins are delicate.
I'd nether go with them anywhere with currents, it's just not safe.
They did meanwhile make them a tad stronger, so you could try, but frankly for the ocean,
I recommend a real monofin.
I don't think they use real monofins, just foot pockets glued to a kind of plexiglass? Is that true, Caltuna?
they should not use plexiglass if that's what they use. Lexan is better
Hmm... well I'm not really sure what the material is but my guess is something like plexiglass? I've seen the monofin Magictail has in their tails in person but I honestly am not sure what it's made of. It's clear and kind of feels like plastic?Quote:

Maybe one could build a custom monofin in the same shape from Lexan, and replace it with that?
Might even be ocean-trustworthy then.
I'm pretty sure it's lexan but it's not cut in the correct shape so it used to be very brittle, like you said? I seem to remember it being lexan...
Might just be plain old plastic sheet. I wonder if MagicTail could tell you, if you asked?
I have 3 of them. They have been used ALOT, my friends and their kids all wear them when they come over, and the kids get rough sometimes. The fabric has gotten many holes, I'm always sewing a hole. The monofins are fine. I don't know if they would be strong enough for ocean swimming, but if you can swim with legs, I don't see why not either. I've never swam in the ocean in a tail of any kind tho, so please take advice from someone who is experienced in that area. As for the tail itself, if it was me, I would do it.
By now you are probably in Mexico but oh well.
As weird as this sounds, I actually got less damage swimming in my magictail in the ocean. Pools are shallow and really closed in so you are always rubbing against floor and walls. As for the ocean the sand is pretty soft, even though there are shells.
I have had my magictail for two years and I have had no problem with the monofin so I don't know. Maybe I just am not a good enough swimmer?
As long as you are careful and only swim in safe spots you should be okay in the ocean. Just be careful and make sure you are swimming with others.
