Making My First Tail
Over the next few weeks, I'm going to making my first tail! It's going to be very simple; a patterned fabric with a little extra on the end to give the fluke some shape. I'm getting my monofin around the 17th of this month, and once I have it, I'm getting the fabric. I found a gorgeous fabric on Spandexworld that I love and think might look relatively realistic;

I think the beige will look kinda like skin, and then the blue/turquoise will be like the scales. I'm also thinking of using this one someday in the future, but maybe not my next one- wanna have some variety;

So, I finally figured out my fluke shape. I didn't want it to just be round because I thought that might look a little too plain, but I didn't want to add on tons and tons of fabric. This is the shape I'm using. Green is the monofin and pink is the fabric;

I'm also considering adding turquoise chiffon to the sides, but I'm not sure. When I get the fabric samples I ordered I'm going to go to my arts and crafts shop and check out the chiffon to see what looks good ^w^

Awesome! I just ordered some fabric from spandex world and I had narrowed it down to my top 5 favorites, and that blue snake skin fabric was one of them. I ended up going with another fabric. I am very interested to see what a tail with that fabric will look like because I am sure it will look very cool!

Thanks! I was going to order it from spandexworld too, but I wanted to get samples first and it said the shipping would be like $12! I'm thinking also of using a little bit of the beige coloured one and making like a sleeve/glove thing to look like scales on my arms ^w^

Update! So, I finally got my monofin :-) I finished my pattern last night and I think I know what I'm doing with the fluke - I'm thinking of adding chiffon in a light aqua to the fluke, kind of like the ones the Weeki Wachee mermaids wear. Fins crossed my samples come in this week ^w^

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, progress has kind of been slowed. My fabric samples should be in this week or next week, because something went wrong and my order wasn't processed. But once they come in, I will be ordering the fabric. I am considering changing my mind on the fabric. I'm worried that the lines (the tan patches) will go around my body as opposed to along it. Does anyone know if fabrics like this are usually lengthways are widthways? Any input is appreciated. :)

The pattern on mine goes lengthways and in the preview photo on Spandexworld they showed the pattern going horizontal just like in your photos.
I was able to have the pattern go down the center.:) Hopefully this is how your fabric will be.
