Questions about my first Eco-tail

I wan't sure where to post this, so I hope this is the right place.
My partner purchased me an Ecotail from Mertailor as holiday gift.
After taking my measurements, the medium size tail was purchased. It fits nicely in the legs, but the waist part almost comes up to my boobs.
Tis not how I measured it. I also got this string thing and I'm not sure if it goes with the Bandeau top or for the tail.
Does anybody have any ideas on how to fix this without going through the hassle of trying to return it?
Or should I just take it to the seamstress and have it altered to the correct length?

I would just fold or roll down the tail to your desired length. If you want to alter it, it'd be a simple hem that you could probably do at home even without a sewing machine. The string looks like it might be straps for the top. Is there anything on it that they can attach to?

I didn't notice anyplace on the top the string could attach to. The top is basically a rectangular piece of fabric.

I think the string part might wrap around the square of fabric "top".

I never wrote a review before, but I shall try. It will be a few months before I can swim in the tail though.
Waters are too cold for me to swim this time of year without wearing a wetsuit.
