Good to know that no power is lost, I'm wanting to put this monofin in a future silicone tail and as much as I love this shape it just won't work for what I'm planning.

I too have both the Oceanika/Mahina and the FINIS Aquarius and though both give much more power than swimming without a mono fin, I would say the Mahina has more power, is more aesthetically pleasing, and also stays on your feet. The design of the aquarius includes a single rubber strap that goes across both feet and when powering through the water/doing tricks it often slips off no matter how tight it is adjusted.
I had to break in the Mahina the first few times - I have lots of nice blisters even in socks!
I finally trimmed off the fluke tips! It bore little corner holes into one of my tails. Though not very visible I became so annoyed at the fin, I thought, "That's it! You two are coming off!"
Just shot and email to Mahina about the Orca fluke design, I'll post the response when I get it! :)

Well beans. Thanks for letting me know Jaffa, I appreciate it!

We all wish they'd come out with the orca sooner rather than later.

Mahina Merfins changed their Product Safety Warning. It used to be on another page in smaller writing.
Which makes me wonder... Has there been accidents? Or is it in reply to that video? You know the one...

:: groans :: well, back to the great monofin search...Maybe pearlie will come out with her new monofin...

They are just trying to cover their...uh...fins, litigation-wise. I'm working on prototypes!
Sooon... :rollover:
(*^*) :: hopeful sparkly baby animal eyes :: I will happily volunteer as a test subject.

Doesn't she SHOW it being used inside full mermaid tails?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Only on hers, everyone else has scale patterned lycra leggings.

Well right burnt wearing one herself isn't she advertising that it can be done?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yea, but she doesn't advertise it with kids wearing mermaid tails. The pictures, with tails, are only adults in them.
It's still an advertisement, it doesn't say "don't let kids wear tails with these flippers" it says "don't wear tails with these flippers" soooo technically still an advertisement.

Yea, confusing, either way you look at it. Well I think its because mainly a kids fin, as they did put out the child size ones first.
True, still misleading. *makes wavy hand motions and shrugs*

I just ordered a merfin, and I still plan on using it in a full tail. I agree with PearlieMae; they're covering their tails in case of accidents. I think as long as you practice good swim safety, like never swimming in your tail without a spotter, it should be fine.
If you haven't noticed the fear of fins is rampant right now and pools are banning everywhere. Many fin makers have had to be more forth coming with safety
What sparked the fear? Was there an accident?
Nope. There was a video of a girl unable to do a flip, but she was fine.
Heck, I can't do a back flip and I've been swimming for 30 years.
Anyone have a recommendation for neoprene swim socks to wear with the merfin?
Awesome, thanks! I'm prone to blisters so I definitely need something like that.
I'm thinking I'd like to paint my merfin, and I was considering using Plasti-dip spray, since it's a flexible rubber paint. Is this a disastrous idea? My fabric tail isn't going to completely hide the merfin, and I'd like it to match the tail more or less.
Spot test it on the bottom or something would be my advice :)

I still have dark scar marks between my upper arch and ankle from my first lengthy swim with my Merfin.
Now I use the neoprene socks and I've never had a problem since.
For sizing reference; I'm tall and wear a women's size 10, so the men's size 7-8 in these fit me perfectly.

Thanks for the link. I'm definitely going to need socks. My fin arrived today, and after putting it on, it was already pinching me in uncomfortable places. I'm thinking about shaving down some of the rubber in those areas...
I use Sharkskin socks for scuba diving and find them fantastic to wear under diving boots or just by themselves.
"The comfortable 'micro fleece' layer is next to the skin and 'wicks' moisture and sweat away from the body to help keep you dry. The second middle 'technical' layer is 100% windproof yet breathes to regulate body temperature while stopping windchill. The third outer layer is a nylon/lycra blend for abrasion resistance and 4 way stretch. It is also UV resistant for sun protection and has a durable water repellent finish (DWR) to provide a protective shell that 'sheds' water. The three layers of Sharkskin when combined together provide the equivalent warmth of a 2.5 to 3mm wetsuit but unlike a wetsuit the Sharkskin Chillproof material stops windchill. Sharkskin Chillproof is neutrally buoyant, anti-microbial, odour resistant , itch resistant and machine washable"
I also have the long sleeved top.

I sold mine for a mirage but I really wanna go back. My last one was a bit snug.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk
Why not have both? A merfin and a mirage?
Hmmmmmm that just seems so excessive! Lol
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk
Naww! I still have my 1st merfin plus the current one that does fit, a finis foil AND a mirage!
Nothing wrong with variety now and then.
Gah!! Really?! Thats so many!!
