Oooh, okay. I thought I had read somewhere in the thread that the other option was the rapid, but I think I did see talk about the trainer as well. Just misread~
Thanks for the picture! It looks similar in the other tails I was looking at too.

Yeah, that's pretty much how it will look for any silicone tail with a Competitor in it. And they did used to put Rapids in tails as their default option (pretty sure ChristoMer's first tail had one) but they stopped because there were too many issues with the ankle straps. And as someone who has also done a lot of swimming with a Rapid just by itself, I would never want to have one in a tail! The strap slips off a lot and the clip that holds it down between the feet also comes undone easily. It's easy enough to fix when you're just using the fin, but inside a silicone tail it would just be a nightmare. But anyway, when I talked to Abby and Bryn about the Trainers they were using in their tails (the betta tail might have the first one, not sure if they used it before then), it gave pretty good propulsion, at least as good as a Rapid. But personally, I am really glad I went for the Competitor upgrade.
You're very welcome! I really did think the Competitor would be difficult to use, but it really isn't (for me anyway). I was thinking it would be a lot stiffer to swim in but it glides and moves so nicely, and fits my feet so well that I don't need socks! I'm a woman's US size 9.
I have a US size 6.5/7 so hopefully it'll fit me ><
They make smaller Competitors for different foot sizes. Finfolk would ask you your shoe size if/when you order so they can find the right one for you. :)
Finis discontinued their smallest competitor last year

Hmm, I checked up on the finis website and for both the competitor and the trainer and it's showing the smallest size as a medium (womans 7.5-9). I guess I might just have to go with wearing big socks or something, I'm not sure.
Feels kinda silly that they wouldn't have a little bit smaller sizing.
I'm a W 6.5 (though for water sports wear, sometimes size 4 is still to large) and I can wear the "medium" size competitor (in my tail) with 2 pairs of 2mm socks and it's just fine :) If you want smaller sizes, you'll need to go with another monofin. The finis foil has xs and s covering the women's sizes 3-5 and 5.5-8.
I guess Finis just doesn't have enough female customers to keep them interested. After all, they discontinued the Tempo and the smaller sizes for their fiberglass fins :/
I only have 3 more weeks then they will start to make it!!! I'm so stoked!!!

@Raina - Ah, didn't know that! Since I'm in the middle/upper end of the foot size spectrum, I didn't even think of them discontinuing a smaller size.
@Savannah - EEE congrats! What will your tail look like?
New fluke design!

Ooh looks like feathers

That looks AWESOME.
It reminds me of feathers, too! ^_^ Makes me want to see this fluke painted in peacock colours! :D
Their painting (and sculpting) skill are beyond anything I've seen. Wow, just wow. Tell me someone on here is receiving that tail? I HAVE to see more of it.
@Octavia it's going to be the fluke like Syrena has (I forget what it's called) but the colors I'm keeping a surprise for when it starts being made, barely anyone in my family knows the colors haha

You know, now that you mention it, a peacock mantis shrimp would make an interesting inspiration for a tail...

@ Dan- ....I swear- you and I are related...somewhere. This is the first thing that came to mind after I saw your post: Mantis Shrimp are awesome!
eeeeeeee!!! That's MY tail! heheh. AND it's soOOoo neat that Dan and Marlin thought of a Mantis Shrimp because that was in with the slew of other "inspiration" photos I gave them!!!! Along with a rather long list of details too - and I think they totally nailed ALL of them! Plus FEATHERS.....I basically wanted a Mantis Crow Mermaid I guess. ha. <3
So super giddy that yall pointed that out - adding to the giddiness of my new tail too. I think I'm gunna faint! Picking it up tomorrooooww! AHH!
When I think of feathers and the sea, the sea pen comes to mind:

Followed shortly thereafter by the barnacle goose, a bird that legend says was born from bits of driftwood.
Your tail is absolutely stunning! :)
We MUST have video and more pictures as soon as you get it!
My Man O War Finfolk tail is for sale thanks to personal issues involving a bad need for good finances--NO FLAWS OR ISSUES WITH THE GOOOORGEOUS TAIL! If anyone is interested, check out the thread:

I might be selling my tail as well. I've been thinking of selling my merbellas tail for a finfolk tail lately. I feel like finfolk is on the same tier as merbellas as far as quality goes, and I like the fluke designs that finfolk offers. I honestly feel sort of bored with my merbellas tail, I'd like a new fluke design and a new color scheme. I used to dream about making silicone tails, but finfolk has actually done just about every shape I've come up with. So I feel like I should follow my heart and get one of their tails.
Seriously Aylah? But your tail is one of the best flowy tails that Raven made! :(
If you feel "bored", you could ask Raven to do a new paint job don't you think? Perhaps adding some fins? Of course, you could also get a new tail from Finfolk Productions, you would look GREAT in one! :D
It's nice to hear from you. It's not every day that we get to see a post from you. How you doing lately? :)

I'd love to ask Raven to do a new paint job on my tail, but I'm extremely strapped for cash (actually in the red) and can't afford shipping to and from her shop. Finfolk is based just a couple of hours away from Duluth and I have many friends who live in that area who can help transport the tail for me so I don't have to pay shipping. Also, one other person mentioned that since Finfolk is so close to where I live, I can probably go in for a personal appointment and design my tail with them. This of course isn't final, and the whole thing depends on if and when I can sell my current tail, and how soon a new tail can be ready, but I just wanted to see how everyone else feels about it. And maybe if anyone would be interested in buying my merbellas tail.
I've been away from mernetwork so long that I didn't even know that. Guess that's what happens when you don't have internet. :P I'll send her a PM.
OMG Ayla! I've been drooling over your tail ever since I first saw it on youtube! It's beautiful!
I would more than love to buy it but (don't get too excited) yeah you figured, no money atm for tails... If I had the money I would be a tail horder. When I'm old and rich I will be a tail horder. For real.
Just spoke to the shipping company over the phone - customs finally released my tail 8 minutes ago and I'll be getting it tomorrow! :D
Hooray!

I know right? It's a pity there aren't more tail makers in Australia, because if I ever get another tail it is not coming from overseas. Customs really gave me the runaround with this :\
Sure! I went by the width of the tail itself because I've gained weight since I got it and it doesn't fit quite right anymore.
Length: 38"
Waist: 26"
Hip: 32"
Knees: 24"
Ankles: 16"
These measurements may not be completely accurate, but if you're 5'3" or shorter, it should fit.
Ugh, so my tail didn't end up coming today. I called DHL and they said it was still at the warehouse. They couldn't tell me why it hadn't been picked up for delivery :\
So I'm going to go pick it up from the warehouse tomorrow morning. So disappointing, but at least they're open tomorrow so I don't have to wait till Monday.
I definitely will! :)
