I've picked up the tail, tried it on and OH MY G-D IS IT HARD TO LIFT. That competitor fin is nothing to laugh at. I also can't get a picture of myself in the tail, because the tail is so gosh darn long. It adds an extra three feet to me. I did get some pics on my camera of me sitting up in my tail, as well as me trying on my bracers and top, but nothing good as of yet of the tribal design. That might need to wait a little while until I can get ahold of some good lighting.
And yeah, it took me a good 15 mins or so of wiggling and lubing to get it on, but I did it by myself!!! Taking it off is a different story. I didn't want to take it off. It was too cozy.

I know that it's likely years off... but I am considering buying from Mernation as my first silicone tail, specifically the solid color option. I think that the $1700 price tag could work with my budget and I might plan on seeing in in to add paint colors or even do it myself. Since I'm going to art school and will likely get a lot of time at home, I might even be able to take on a few gigs with the tail and be able to save up for a really nice one in the future. That the plan at least.
Does anyone have some advice on why I should or should not consider Mernation?
Their customer service is the best I have ever seen in the tail-making world! They keep in constant contact with you, update you every step of the way, even cheer you on as you save up! If you email them even today and talk to them about your ideas and plans, they would return your message within the same day and talk about your design scheme and payment plan, even if you can't afford it within this year.
I started talking to them about 7 months ago, before I started saving up, and was already discussing design plans and modifications. At that time, I just wanted a Regal Blue Tang tail, but considering they have already had a lot of clientele that have ordered that tail already, they really had me think outside the box and led me to the decision that I have today.
With extensive communication via email and text, purchasing from them was a breeze and a pleasure. They knew exactly what I wanted, how I wanted it, and even threw in a few extras and saved me some money on my package. They put together my dream tail with the utmost care and best customer service I have ever seen, and even created things that they've never done before- just for me!
There are so many options in regards to customization, your imagination is the limit! (insert advertisement here) They really let me do whatever I wanted with my tail, fins, and bracers. And I bet, if I asked to put fins on my top as well, they probably would have done that too. They sculpt every fin by hand, so they made my fins exactly to my design. And let's not even get started on their paint job.... ;)
I agree on customer service. It is unmatched in any service industry I've ever dealt with, not just the mermaid market. From what I have seen, they give this same treatment to every customer, whether you just order a top or you order a full tail set with diamonds, blinking lights and gold leaf, haha.
As a business professional myself, I also appreciate the fact this company provides a clean artist product while also being conscious of the value of their customers' time and money. They will give you the best product they can within your budget and go the extra mile to make sure they are proud of every item that leaves their company. They are also really knowledgeable about their materials and will give you great advise throughout the process.
My tail is flawlessly built. It is sturdy, consistent in thickness, and opaque. The silicone itself is colored a vivid yellow all the way through, so I have no concerns about the paint holding up. There are certainly other tailmakers with more complex designs, but MerNation's work is clean enough to carry of the simple base design, in my opinion. There are no bubbles or tags in the silicone, everything is smooth and symmetrical. And, personally, I love the stylized, sort of art deco look of their classic fluke.
Finally, it swims really well because it fits. They always add at least two inches to the top of your tail to make absolutely sure it is high enough in the back to prevent gapping or slipping down you tush. They instruct your to give it a swim or two, maybe take some photos, and then CAREFULLY remove scales from the top a row at a time if you feel it's necessary. I'm probably going to take the top row off of mine, but that still leaves it a full inch higher than the measurements and duct tape dummy I sent. If they hadn't done this, my tail would fit very well, but instead it fits perfectly. Also, I know that requiring their customers to send a duct tape dummy has helped them catch some customers' measurement mistakes before, plus they have YOUR form to construct YOUR tail on.
TL;DR: Oh my gosh, I love MerNation.
Your tail is stunning! Those bracers are so cool :) They started working on my tail, granted its just the base color but its the exact shade of red I asked for. They have amazing service, unmatched to anything I've had experience with.

I still can't get over how they read my review of my fabric tail here on Mernetwork (which was glowing, except for a bit of a size issue), then contacted ME to offer to fix the sizing issue free of charge. I was just going to try to take it in myself since it is really perfect in every other aspect. They didn't have to do that. But they did, which raised them so very high in my book.
Wow that's amazing! I'm telling you, they're so great as a company. They do everything to keep their customers happy :) No matter how impatient! I have to say I've sent them soo many emails with questions and concerns. They always replied to me with no problems ;) They finished the back side of my tail and sent me picture's, take a look! They did a superb job! <3 It glows, just screams my name Haha!

Yea they basically are almost done and it's been a week. I'm thinking it will be sent out by the end of the week or so. I'm shocked at how fast they did everything LOL
Beautiful colors, I was also super impressed with how fast they got mine finished and shipped!! It was less than two weeks from the time they received payment to having it at my door!! They are the absolute best!!

i just got a mernation tail. they started work on it 3 weeks after i ordered and i had it in my hands in 4 weeks. they arranged to let me come pick it up. great work, perfect fit. theyre so patient working with you to make sure youre completely overjoyed with your new tail. and its so soft! its built great and is so beautiful. theyre great to work with. id get another tail from them in a heartbeat.

I haven't been able to swim in mine yet. Texas is being hammered with rain and the pool is still 70°. We've never had this much rain ever in the 20 years I've lived here. Of course the year I get my tail the pool stays freezing ugh :/ I need a heated pool!! Now I'm about to go on a road trip for a month. Grr maybe when I return the pool will be prepped for me :D

Yeah I had to edit a lot of stupid stuff out that I did. I kept repeating myself :/ that's what I do when I'm nervous. I forget I said that already lol. Editing took an hour to do so it would still look right. I was also rambling [emoji14] anytime I fumbled over words I would pause and start again so I could easily edit it out. So glad for that. Great pic Summer! Elodea, you should definitely bite the bullet and do it for MerNation, they deserve it!! You can edit out stuff you don't want in the video ;) just talk about MerNation as you unbox.
