What kind of tails? Fabric, neoprene, latex or silicone?
They'll be silicone. :)
What are your tails made of? Do you have any other tails you've made besides the one you plan to make for a friend? (because it takes making more than 2 tails to knock out all the kinks in your process and getting the process down)
I love that you want to undertake a tailmaking business, and thank you for the shout out, but until you build a tail, especially diving into making silicone tails, I doubt you are going to get much helpful feedback until you have one in hand that you've made. Plus, you might get halfway through and find that you would rather be swimming and performing than being chained to buckets of goo. :D
It took me a YEAR to make my first silicone tail, and I chronicled most of the process, and I will be the first to tell you that even with an extensive art/sculpting background, tailmaking is bloody hard!
You can't even begin to think of pricing our selling tails until you've made one. I'm not trying to discourage you, and I wish you much success if you do decide to become a slave to the silicone, but try it first before offering tails for sale. There is a long list of potential tailmakers who got in way over their heads way too fast.
Good luck!
Some random sketches from when I wasn't feeling well. These are completely up for grabs. Feel free to use them for your own tails.

Been trying to combine the Little Mermaid and Sailor Moon to make my dream tale. I think I finally managed to pull it off and I love it. I'm not sure if anything else should be added though.
I'm open to ideas or opinions. You're even welcome to make any changes to it's design or improve it.
I'm doing a make over on my Trout Fish tail. This is the fluke I have come up with.
Its that shape as I'll be putting my practice fin (Finis Foil Monofin) into it.
It will be painted fins as the fabric I used for Trout Fish fins has faded a lot as it is not swimsuit material but the rest of the tail still looks new except for the fins. Which is why I'm doing a makeover.
I'm still a little undecided on the fluke... Can't decide if I want the middle point to be longer or the same size as the rest. As it stands, it will be slightly curved to follow the shape of the foil monofin. It has to be a practical fin. Especially on crowded days, I once ended up sharing a lane with 5 other swimmers!! Silly school holiday inflatable dragons...

Hi,
I'm new around here and preparing to order my first tail and am looking for some input. though I've been reading the threads for a while, I have been too shy create an account until now.

Everything you see is my own work. The fluke design is my own, inspired by the H2O tails. The side view was inspired by a koral outline but was hand drawn by me. As are the color schemes.
Thank You :)!
Here's my outfit design. x3 I actually prefer the shiny version. Lol. Check the classifieds as I'll be posting a really great deal for a silicone tail and top with these designs. x3

So I've been thinking on a personal tail design. I definitely wanted something from the Great Lakes, since it's where I'm from. It also had to be something a bit more masculine. I settled on a Lake Sturgeon tail, and I gotta say I'm pretty darn happy with the design. Some day I hope I can make it for myself.

Wow! Thanks folks! I'm really excited by all the positive comments I've gotten. It really makes me excited about it and driving me more and more to think about either commissioning it or maybe trying to tackle making it myself. Maybe as a summer project or something in the not too distant future.
Best merman design I have seen so far! And very masculine, no doubt a future merman for us girlies to adore ;-)

This is my design for a Xenomorph (The alien from the film 'Alien') inspired tail. I was going to make it a full body tail, but decided against it and designed a top too. When I get the money I would love to make this tail a reality. Plus, it's unisex! (The top being female though)
And i designed it using Microsoft Paint...
