I really like both of yours Freshwater! :)
Thank you PearlieMae and Yulia! :D
I'll use the colors of the first concept for my fabric tail. I just can not wait to see it done! But I'm using a fin fun monofin, and franckly, I don't know what to do with the fluke... Does anybody have ideas?
Yes. Keep drawing. Look to nature for inspiration.
Pearlie that fluke is beautiful

Finally finished making my tail! :D

I made it from latex because that's all I could afford, so I don't know how long it's going to last :(
You look fabulous! You should talk to some latex tail owners for the best caretaking tips on your tail. Properly cared for, it might last quite a while!
(Thank you Neri Elvina!)
My next tail design after I've slimmed down and got some strength in my body, is the picture in my avatar. With a matching fish suit and dorsal fin, it will be fairly easy to make, now that I know how to make a simple swimsuit.
I have an idea of colors but I don't know what to do with them
here's 2 from me. 1 is the design of the tail I am making myself with neoprene and latex... vaguely splash or goldfish inspired. (should be finished this weekend, just need to finish the detail painting.) Attachment 30323 The second is the design for the silicone tail I just ordered... I should have that one in 8-10 weeks. Not quite a tail design but I hope it helps inspire one :)

I actually really want a Goldeen-tail sometime, I think it would be nice. Your Seaking is pretty too!
Random thought, but has anyone ever tried to design or make a two tailed mermaid tail(s) like the Starbucks mermaid or based upon older interpretations of merfolk? I think that would be rather awesome if done right.
I think it's been talked about, but I've never seen it done. That would be interesting!
Momo if you can hear us, if you can see us... you need to see Pearlie's tail design.
None of these are a finished design but I thought I would post them anyway.

Here's the rough draft of what I want my tail to look like, and the fabrics I have/have found for it.

Holy cow! That's a gorgeous design, I can't wait to see it completed :)
Thank you! It'll be my first mermaids tail, but not my first time working with these fabrics/techniques. I can't start working on it until I get the new monofin (I decided on a mahina mermaid monofin) and I can't order it until after my little bro's wedding due to travel finances. But I'll probably get the fabrics/make the patterns then get the monofin.

Wow, beautiful color choices. I love the shapes of the fins, too. I can't wait to see it completed!
Thank You! :)

That looks like it'll be amazing! It may not be very practical for swimming though, as lots of extra material adds drag- but who cares! as long as it looks gorgeous :D
Lovely fabrics! Make sure you do test swims with it before making your tail. Like pin scraps of it to your swimsuit and go for several swims, so you know if its durable or not. Some fabrics will start breaking down after 1 or 2 swims.
Oceanwhisper- I've actually taken that into consideration, which is why I've been training with a very small and not stiff monofin (finished foil, it's ridiculously yellow) and a very strong swimmer.
Mermaid Jaffa- I'm actually making sure all the materials are synthetic fibers, and all metallic sheens are not a coating but part of the fiber itself. I will be testing them as well though!

A tip for swimming with lots of drag- swim slowly. The faster you swim the more energy you waste, you will actually get farther swimming slowly. I used to be on a swim team and they made us swim in baggy clothes sometimes. My tail now has quite a bit of drag, but if I swim slow I look graceful and cool. Swimming fast looks goofy because I'm barely moving lol

Thank you for the tip Mermaids Wesley! I'll try practising that!

My daughter's latest tail design (the one we're making for her). I should post some of the more outlandish tails she's designed-- girl has quite an imagination!

At around 1am I was struck by a weird inspiration for a very dorky (or is it nerdy?) tail design. An hour and a half later, I have the finished product. I will love forever anyone who knows what the design is based on. Also please do not use this for your own tail design, although I doubt anyone would be interested since it isn't very mermaid-y.

First one is the front, second is the back. Gosh do I feel silly for making this.
:highfive: Yes, I'm so happy you recognized it! Blue Beetle II is my favorite superhero, with his successor definitely in my top 10. Any chance you know where your husband got his scarab? I would love to have one.
Also I may or may not try some other superhero inspired designs, if that isn't a problem. I wouldn't want to clog this thread up with stuff that isn't very mermaid themed unless others actually want to see it.
Yes!! Jaime Reyes, right? That's his fave, too! And he's Latino so he can cosplay him! Haha We got it from an Etsy seller who does custom props. I sent him a picture and he did a great job! He made it so that it could attach like a backpack. :)
About the designs, as long as they're on tails, they're totally relevant!! I'd LOVE to see them!!!
I'm sewing this one! http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/06...8bc399f3ac.jpg
Crowntail beta tail with space to keep using individual swim flippers. Here's hoping!
