I'm really happy because I am going to possibly have my tail by the end of this summer, since its been so long I'm resending my measurements hopefully this week? I'm also cleared to possibly buy a new top to go with it? I got some new nail polish which suits my mersona WONDERFULLY. I'm also cutting my hair back from the awkward pixie growing into a bob but not quite curl stuff going on to a pixie with short bangs and dyeing it all blue and purple!!!!!!!!!! YAS!

Thanks to Mom helping me with funds I was able to get my first 2 monofins (Finis Foil and Mahina Merfin) ordered. Better yet, I just checked the tracking on the Foil and it should be here Friday! The Merfin should be here Monday! And I'm just really really excited to finally have a monofin. The fabric stores nearby don't have much nylon/spandex which is what I want to use for my first tail I think but I was able to order a bunch of possible swatches from spandexworld and hopefully that'll get here next week!

My first monofin was delivered yesterday!!!! I can't wait until dinner night this Friday when I get to pick it up from my in-laws house. (my husband and I live in a apartment with a shared mailbox so we get everything important delivered to his or my parents house )

I went to a salon and had it done there, since it had to be bleached. Thankfully, the lady who did it (the only salon worker allowed to touch my hair since she is not scissor happy) said my hair was in such good shape it could survive a whole head bleach and come out still soft. As much as I hate to resort to a non-tail costume, I have to make this a walking tail and I am out of time! The plan is to use my shell bodice from previous parades, a sequin fabric mermaid-style skirt - snug through the hips and flaring out at the bottom, and in lieu of a fluke, an iridescent bustle of sorts that will flare out like hip fins. Lots of seaweed garland to embellish and a shell, pearl, and plant mermaid circlet crown. I can't wait to share photos!

It's heavy enough not to be swimmable! It's more like a bib than corset, the front hangs off the bottom of a bra. My back is uncovered except for the strap.

During swim lessons one of the teachers told the kids to go over to deep end to do some diving. One of the kids responded "We're going to die". I told him no you're not gonna die. He responded "we lost three already". Three of the kids did not show to class tonight (many parents seem not to know we had lessons on Friday).

(This one's only a small thing, but anyway..) I kinda disliked the 'yellow-ness' that the light globe in my room gave off, so I switched it for one of the fluorescent ones in the hallway- my room doesn't seem yellow anymore!! Yay! Even when I took pictures of stuff in here, it looked bad, but now I have a clear atmosphere in my room :D tiny victory

I bought this awesome material yesterday for half price at my spandex store. I was gonna make 4 tails out of it but my cousin and a friend say I need to make one tail with all the colors. To me that might be a waist of material because I bought enough to make individual tails. What do you think?
I also bought son bright pink mesh for making fins on a few of them.
Yesterday I got in the mail 3 tiny bonsais for my dollhouse. They are such cuties, and I love them!

So aside from the bit of panicking I did yesterday about preparing for the GRE, there have been lots of positives to share:
My Finis Foil came on Thursday (a day early) and I was able to go swimming with it on Friday - that first swim across the pool with it was magical and the only other times I've had a similar feeling were when I got pulled along by a dolphin (this time I actually felt like a dolphin/mermaid)!
I'm starting to get a bit more confident in my study for the GRE - it's definitely hard and I have a long way to go, but I'm starting to feel more positive and am starting as prep course this week (hopefully able to take the exam at the end of July).
I got a ton of awesome fabric (thanks to my Mom and a bunch of coupons):
~ mermaid/sea creature flannel (pillowcase and one side of a weighted blanket)

Then tonight I went to an English Country Dance group that meets 5 minutes from home (I've always wanted to go and never realized it was that close...) and it was a ball! Can't wait for next week :)
Hi Ambr! Can't you incorporate the scraps from the tails into each of them? Like use some bits for fins, cut into strips for ribbing in the fluke, maybe alternate the colors cut into strips and apply as the ribbing onto the fins? That way you could do all the tails that you want and use some of the colors in each.Quote:

I just discovered the 'see who favorited this page' list on Etsy for my shop. I was pleasantly surprised that I only know three of the people who have favorited my shop. :D
And I double checked my prices, they're absolutely fair. I might not ever sell a necklace, but I do love to make them.
I wear those I made for myself, and I get a lot of compliments, so I'd like to think I'll sell one or two at some point.
