Ahhh! How did I miss it!?! Your tail is so gorgeous! :swoon:
I'm really excited about getting a production slot for Merbella Studios. Everything I've heard and seen makes me certain that I made the right decision for my first tail. The tail I put in an order for will have the Lunar Koi fluke and rounded scales. I wanted to know a few things from Merbella merfolk. How is swimming in the Lunar Koi tail? I'm a strong swimmer with monofin experience, and I'm definitely going to be taking it slow while I get used to using my tail, but I'd love to hear from folks who have had a chance to do some Lunar Koi fluke swimming. What did you find, if anything, challenging about it? I also have concerns about cleaning relating to the scales. I'm a huge proponent of natural cleaners - baking soda, vinegar, and essential oils are the heavy lifters in my home when it comes to keeping things clean. Obviously, there are mold concerns when cleaning a silicone tail. Is it more challenging to keep textured scales clean? I really dig the Merbella scales and the newer textured scales that Raven used on her latest rainbow-y, personal tail, but it feels like it might be more challenging to get into all the little grooves. As I've never owned and cleaned a mermaid tail before, that may not be the case, though. Also, tea tree oil is an essential oil rock star with serious anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, but it can be highly caustic if you're not careful about diluting it. For those who own Merbella tails, what has been your experience in keeping them clean and mold-free? Does anyone use essential oils (diluted, of course) as a part of their cleaning regimen, and have you found it to be harmful to the silicone?
Congrats Sabreprime! Your tail sounds like it will be amazing! I don't believe much scrubbing is involved in cleaning the exterior of a silicone tail (I could be wrong though since I don't own one). I think most people just soaks theirs after a swim in a baking soda bath, wipe the inside out (either with more baking soda or I think I've even heard that one mer uses Lysol wipes), and then dry.
And Felicia, the moment the water is warmer we expect a swimming video ;)
I know Raina uses a thick bristled brush , like a body brush for in the shower, to scrub her tail. It's gentle but gets all the sand out
Dragonskin (platinum cure silicone) is prosthetic grade, and can technically be boiled, so hot water and soap is not going to harm it. Neither is alcohol, disinfectant wipes, or other cleaners. With tails that are painted, that is, most of them, you do want to clean the exterior gently, but the inside can be vigorously scrubbed. I use a body pouf and Dawn dish soap, because it's a great degreaser for getting out any lube. Just make sure that everything is rinsed well, and probably most importantly, dried thoroughly.
Tea tree oil could be fine, but I think it's really unnecessary.
That was me that requested the lunar koi in the air! I am so enchanted by it.
I want to see it swimming in the water. I seen a small few seconds of Raina in the pool with Raven in "Jade". But it was floating around. That and thr very end of her interview with Tyler.
Everything about it has me like whooaaa.

Any new updates on tails or contact from Raven yet?
I'm curious to see who's next in line for the best day ever :P
Nothing yet on my end. I don't think she's even started it yet. I am going to hit 415 days tomorrow (or now for those who are three hours ahead of me.)
Mine only got started on the 10th of Feb, so I won't have anything to report for a while :)
I would love to just watch Raven work. I feel like with the ambiance of her studio and the attention she puts into her work, it would be like watching a sorceress do magic.

Have you already owned a fabric tail to start? They're the best starter tails, as the fabric keeps your legs bound, not just the monofin. Also congrats on getting a production slot!!!! The merbella tails are amazing. (or so I've heard, I'm still saving haha.) Good luck on your silicone tail!!!! I'm so excited for you! :swoon::mermaid kiss:
I GOT MY SKETCH TODAY!!!!!!!!!
Apparently it was done a good while ago (not sure exactly how long) and they thought they sent it but didnt haha see I told ya I felt forgotten :P
Anyways everything looks great and my tail will go out with the next batch Tyler say. OMFG I'M SCREAMING RIGHT NOW :D
This is what he wrote me in the email:
"Your tail is set to be completed with the next batch of tails. Raven sketched out your design but it doesn’t look like we ever sent it to you."
Did you give Raven creative Liberty? I'm sorry I am excited for you I promise I just thought they didn't usually start without approval of a design. So either the next batch is a whole off, they started without design approval, or its gonna get pumped out!
Again I promise I'm excited ^_^ I'm just also a little confused haha.
You're totally fine!
I had a sketch made out 2 years prior to getting the spot so it may have been started without approval but that's all good because the sketched Tyler gave me looked great and if she were to go her own way out of accident I'm sure it would look even better then my sketch :P
Okay, confusion gone. Excitement incoming:
EEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHH!

Congrats. :)
Thank you! :D
Y'all have no idea how thrilling this is. I dont know if some of you remember Mermaid Parties/Finbutts that was located here in Colorado (gosh 2012 seems so long ago now o.o) but after working for her, her and my ex friend fucked up my tail so bad I couldn't wear it anymore and NOW after all these years of working hard for the money, coming up with ideas for it and now so close to getting it as got me in a daze :'3
I hope I get a sketch soon, too. My other wedding planning hinges on when I will get my tail.
Little Orca, I hope you get yours as well!
I'm sure that must be tough having to waiting on wedding details due to one specific one. Congrats on getting married though! <3
Came across this today:

Anyone else think it looks familiar?? Cheaper and tackier, admittedly, but still...
I commented that it reminded me of Raven's tail and posted a photo of the original, and it's now been removed (unsurprisingly). She evidently knows exactly what she's doing...

Yeah... She rips off everyone, shes been mentioned in this thread a few times because of it :/
A few of us have posted on the photos now, and I can see why she just deleted my first comment. She's useless at trying to defend herself!! [emoji23]

It's just too bad the woman never had an original idea in her life. Her sculpting and painting skills aren't that bad.
She's obviously realised how awful she is at defending herself. She's deleted all the comments and blocked us from commenting further. Shame - I was finding that quite entertaining!

In this particular instance I wouldn't say it's copying- it's Mantis Shrimp coloured, yes, but the fluke and fins are very different and those were the things that really made the Merbella's version stand out.
It's different enough that'd I'd put it under "inspired by" rather than full on "copycat."
Mer-Crazy and Felicia - I couldn't agree more, and I did point that out to her before she blocked me. It's sad and also frustrating that someone with such a gift would completely waste it like that.
She told me it was just lion fish inspired... She didn't seem to realise it looked like a Mantis Shrimp.
Oh well... I'm gonna stop now as I feel I'm hijacking the thread with this...
I love Raven's work and could spend hours just looking at photos of her tails. I'm so excited for everyone who is lucky enough to have a MerBella tail on the way! The tails just seem to keep getting better - I can't wait to see the next batch! [emoji4]
