I saw those! They'd be prefect if it was smaller or a circle. I can always get one for cheap and try it out anyway.

They lose their edge really fast and there's no way to sharpen them.
Hole punches in general?
Yes, paper dulls them fast enough, but punching enough plastic cards with a pick cutter is going to trash it fast, too.
It's gonna be a lot of cards too...
Here are the cards I have so far.

have you considered a guitar pick punch? They're a bit more heavy duty than your standard paper/craft foam punch.

Yup! I was gonna order one for the initial punches. But I'm stumped on how to then attach the scales to a tail. Regular hole punches aren't sturdy enough to make a stitching hole.
You could use a fine drill bit and drill the stitching holes in....

Ooo, my mertender has a fancy drill! I'll ask her.
Any updates? I love the cards you have (especially the blue and green winter ones ;) )
I've been on vacation, sorry! But I plan on getting the hole punch mid May and starting from there. :3 summer project lol
I ordered the punch today! I was thinking of how to do the fluke... I think I'm going to do it Fifi style and get a pretty monofin, leaving the bottom open for drainage. Right now I'm considering Mahina, Mirage, and Mertailor fins. I haven't looked into price or size options yet, I just remember those monofins as being ones that can look convincing while remaining uncovered~
So excited about this.
You mean the Mertailor silicone fins? That would be really pretty!
Yup! They're lovely, but so expensive x_x I don't think they're an option after all... The mirage monofin sounds too small (I have large/wide feet). The mahina merfin seems like the best bet out of the 3. Although I'd have to paint it to get the look I'd want.
Do you know anyone who has a drill press? That would work REALLY well for drilling holes in multiple cards at once - just clamp 'em together and go! Some cities even have a "tool library" where you can borrow or make use of a variety of fancy tools for free.
Man, now I wanna play with a drill press. They're far too much fun.
Edit: Hey, looks like you can buy a bench-mounted drill press for $70. http://www.harborfreight.com/8-in-5-...ess-60238.html
O: I do not. We have a regular drill. I can check at my mom's of there's a press there. Good idea!
IT WORKS!
