Must grab a bite to eat but here's the progress so far. I'll be adding silver trim around the star and in the center. The rhinestone in the center isn't attached. I put that there to see an idea I had.

And I've started on the top...

Little by little, I'm chipping away at it.

Excellent!
As my mom would say, "leave off anything you wouldn't see from a galloping horse."

Have I mentioned I'm super excited to see the end result? I'm super curious to see how the different colored fluke looks.

Wow its lookin good so far! if you have to pull all nighters what i like to so is watch movies while i sew.

YAY! The star is now finished. I just have a few more things left on the tail and I'm on to the top.
Here it is with the silver trim....

Is that velvet? I'm now very curious to see how that works in water.
-
It's Crushed Panne Velvet. I wondered the same thing and tested a sample of it in water. It's light, airy, breathable and when wet it kind of looks like....eerrrr I want to say seal skin like? Not sure if that made sense but I hope you know what I mean.

I use that fabric for most of my tails ;)

That does sound interesting. Maybe one of these days I'll make a more mammalian tail and use it for that.

I think I now know how those competitors on those contest shows feel like after having only 3 days to do a project from beginning to end.

I like working with my hands, so hand sewing is quite relaxing to me. About 90% of my costumes are all hand sewn. The only costume I did entirely with a sewing machine was my Sailor Moon Ariel costume which I actually think looks like crap. LOL
Anyways I feel like I'm on the home stretch at this point with the tail *knocks on wood* although I don't think I will be able to straighten my fingers out for a while and I still have the top to do.
SO on that note, BACK TO SEWING! :p

I love how this is looking! And my goodness I am in awe of all that handiwork. That's insane to me. Can't wait to see more :)
