Hi all, I'm Mermaid Sienna Star's mum. She's only just started on Mernetwork and asked me to read this thread. It's so sad there are people like this out there. She's only 14 and definitely doesn't need to see these creeps on her facebook page. I've gone through this thread from page 1 and written down names but as I'm new to this forum, is there a master list somewhere I can refer to?
Hi! This thread is our attempt at a master list. I would suggest she just keep her facebook private and does not accept requests from anyone she doesn't know, most of them will be kept away that way, and encourage her to be liberal with the block button. It's your friend. :) Glad to see such a supportive mom.

The page is fine, but many 'merverts' do like those pages and it's nearly impossible for page owners to keep the wrong sorts of people away. So in this situation, she will be able to see their activity on the page but they aren't able to see her profile.

I'm echoing what everyone else has basically said. Block, report and repeat.
She just wanted to post some of her photos to mermaid sites like the magazine but didn't want to attract unwanted attention from these sick individuals. Im really glad that she found this forum. Good idea! Not quite sure how to do that as she's on a page created under my profile page. People can "like and follow" her but cant "friend" as there is no button for that. So atm im just watching who's following her. Got an old guy from Texas the other day, not sure if he's safe yet, Rex Nuf....somebody. She likes to post out updates to all the people who have liked her page to keep them up-to-date so posts under "public". Would it be safer for me to can her current page and start a new one which isnt linked to me? Sorry, strange question..still new to all thisQuote:

i think you can make a new group (instead of a page) and you and your daughter can act as admins on your account, that way you're still able to monitor. personally not a huge fan of the pages but it does generate likes and follows and comments - that one would be good to use and see who needs to be weeded out of the group.

you'll see this motherfucker repeatedly leave strange messages, and she's been harassed before by this same guy. he may have multiple accounts.
Has anyone had any luck putting up some sort of warning or disclaimer on their mermaid page? I've only had mine for a few weeks and I can barely contain my rage every time a new creep with some low-budget porn star as his profile picture and DIRECT LINKS to pornography on his FB likes my page. I mean, I am shaking right now. What does it take to get these people to go elsewhere when my page is clearly geared toward the children and their parents that are my client base, contains oh-so sexy articles on the CA water crisis and maybe two derpy pictures of my fully covered, short-haired, make-up free self? The proportion of people who like my page for the right reasons and these sad creeps is so out of balance that it makes me nauseous. I've already had to block two people. Again, the page has been up for less than a month.
I want to pin a status or a note telling these people that they aren't welcome, but I don't want to draw attention to the problem for potential clients. I want more than anything to just delete the page and go cry in my bedroom for a while, but there is no other option than to have an online presence as an entertainer. It wasn't even my intention to do this "professionally" but I picked up a few gigs to help out some other mers and I need to have something for parents and teachers to refer to.
Any thoughts? How do you guys deal? I really can't imagine how some of the well-known mers cope with this if this has already been my experience on my dinky little page.

Does anyone know much about who this Caspian storm guy is on FB? He has a bunch of us on there. I got confused and thought he was someone else so I accepted a friend request. He kept making off topic rants on all my statuses that I had to delete recently especially cuz he'd get all cursy and stuff... (I didnt screencap though just deleted the original bunch of off topic sweary rants)

I don't think he's a collector or mervert— going through his pictures on FB he has his own monofin that he swims in fairly regularly, it's possible he's a merman (or aspiring to be one? Didn't there used to be a Caspian here on MN?) and just got a little excited? The vibe I got from his comments was that he may be ESL, so that may have contributed to why he came off as so rude, it may not have been intended.
I don't think there's anything to worry about, but yeah, that whole exchange was just... Weird, haha.
I've talked to Caspian a few times. Does anyone watch 'Parks and Recreation'? He's like Craig
