OK, be prepared for explanation, explanation, explanation.
My plan is to combine three completely different creatures into one tail.
One: Sea dragon.

There are five main characters in the first half of the series, and one of them is none other then Tsunami the SeaWing.

Don't they look like blue snakeskin? So, the base of the tail will probably be blue snakeskin, maybe with the glow-in-the-dark stripes.
And I love tigers! My fins and fluke will brobably be gold with silver tiger stripes.
This will be a cloth tail.
And didn't mention? I won't grow out my tail for a year. XD
Tail Template! So, I realized that being a not so slim and svelt mermaid, the first thing I needed to do with a tail design was to create a not slim and svelt mermaid tail template. This template can become a sticky, it can be used by anyone who needs it or who can benefit from it! Attachment 32727

OOOOK, I might try to add some pink in to the design, to represent anemone, and maybe Turtle, her brother, could be represented with green. Hmm, or maybe I could put a band around the fluke to represent his bracelet...

This is not really a final design, but it's a drawing I did! I'm thinking of making the tail work with a finis foil monofin :3 I'm also making the fins!

I got this book when I turned ten, and this picture is still one of my absolute favorite mermaid pictures.
It's so somber and beautiful. I could stare at it for ages.
IN some way I'd like to incorporate it to a tail design, this doesn't have a fluke so I'll have to work something out.

Hey again, sorry I haven't made any new superhero designs, I haven't really been inspired lately. I still have a Flash design I might finish. Maybe. It looks funny. But what I did do was revisit my Blue Beetle II design and redo it to match my Aquarius fin.

Ta-dah! I made the scarab bit on the bottom follow the lines on the monofin itself, and gave it little eyes. I actually kind of want a real fabric version of this if I can save up the money to bribe someone to make me one. (Blue Merbeetle! Blue Beetlmer? Idk)
Also, if anyone is interested in the base I made for this with the Aquarius shaped fluke, let me know and I'll share that as well.

I HAVE DESIGNED MY FIRST TAIL! Wooooooo. This is a sketch I threw together of my first thought for my merFanc tail. Don't know what that means, there is a link in my siggy :P
The first tail was a quick sketch of a 'normal' fluke and body shape so I can figure out what I wanted. The second is the back of my tail design with the rounded paddle fluke. It has spikes up the back and the large spikes in black ink are the definite ones, the small spikes in blue are maybes. I'm not sure if I like them or not and would love y'alls opinions! The third is obviously the front...[COLOR=#333333]The colours don't come through great on my scanner so the spikes are all a dark forest green, like the typical cartoon or drawing colour of an alligator. The rest of the tail and the suit itself is a dark brown. I really feel like brown is an under-rated colour in pretty much everything so I try to use it as much as possible. I am debating making the spikes more blue like the fur in [url=[/COLOR]http://www.lindwurm.jp/eldersign/img2/144_afanc_0g1.jpg]this[/urk] picture but I'm not sure :/
Overall I am really happy with my first design attempt. I want to work with the paddle shape a bit more. I like it long but I want it to be more rounded out like a beaver tail. I also messed up the inking on the tail spikes on the third one but the goal is to have a basic shape then all of the spikes come out from it while retaining the roundey-ness.

SO! What are all-y'all's thoughts? I am not an artist by any means and in fact, i have been terrified to pick up a non-coloured pencil for the last few years so this is a huge step for me >.< So please dear gods don't criticize my actual art work >.> but any ideas on the design itself are mucho appreciated. Would a tail this shape even work <.< Can I cut a monofin to that shape and still get good propulsion?

How will you be doing the spikes?
As for the fluke shape, my shorter snaketails have this sort of fluke (probably even more narrow).
It's possible to swim in, but you lose propulsion. A lot.
If you can make the beaver-tail likeness a bit more profound, you could fit in a slightly cut Rapid or such and get better propulsion.
I still have not found a way to get really good propulsion with a snaketail :(
I did want to make it rounder and more paddle shaped like in the last of the three sketches. My plan was really to get a monofin first then shape it as I needed to but keeping as much of the original plastic as possible.Quote:

Only the top one (the blue/white/orange) was template-ed and even then it was only the shape of the legs. The fines we drawn on by me. The rest are completely hand-drawn. :DQuote:
