Thank you! I know, I love looking through this thread too. It's so inspiring to see that yes, we do finish/finally get these huuuuuge time consuming tails! Haha!
Thanks mermaid Danielle! I love the way the green looks in the water :) and little treasure those are some awesome shots I love your tail!!
Orca who made your tail?

wheee~~~
She had her maiden voyage about 2 nights ago. No one at the Y had ever HEARD of mermaiding and pretty much the whole staff hovered around the pool as my mertender Mermaid Serena helped me get in my tail, and I got in the pool. I had major issues with getting air trapped in my monofin though, since the Rapid is apparently big on me. How do I adjust the straps on my monofin?
At any rate, I made this kid lifeguard's worknight :D
Attachment 12891
Yep. They didn't even know what mermaiding was, or that people wear mermaid tails outside of movies. They were fascinated more than anything else.
Varsh that tail looks awesome. I wasn't sold when the paint was wet and neon-y, but it looks fantastic.
Oh, you mean before it was finished? Lol
Lol yup. I'm an evil genius sometimes.
It all depends on the Y, some are insanely strict and others are more lax. Glad yours let you swim! :D
Oooooh cute lifeguard!! and AWESOME TAIL!
I KNOW, isn't he just darling? He was cheesing big time too. He shyly asked another staff member to ask me if I'd take a photo with him.
On the count of three, 1....2.....AWWWWWWWW!
Awwww! What a sweet guy..... hey i wonder if that would work, use my mermaid tail to attract cute guys hahaha! I'd be a modern-day siren, without drowning sailors to their deaths obviously...
I dare say if I were 10 years younger....
This is one of the first tails I made myself:

I wanted a pure, pristine white look, which is actually my favourite colour.
The fluke is very diaphanous and slightly frilly, which sadly doesn't come out well on the pic
(it's the same material as the frilly stuff on the top).
The fluke can be taken off; the tail has a long tip hidden under the footpocket, and is actually one of my snake tails :)
Wow Caltuna, this is a lovely tail! What did you use for your flukes? How did you make it to remove the flukes, so that the portion of your tail that covers your feet doesn't let go? I would like to figure out a process, so I only need the one monofin/flukes, and use different skins. I love your idea!
Thanks for what ever you can share!

I use a clear/see-through monofin made from polypropylene.
The fluke part is completely separate and fastened with many (diaphanous) press-buttons :p
Same goes for the end of the tail which covers the footpocket.
It's actually a lot more work to make the fluke separate, but I couldn't resist having both a white mertail, and snaketail.
I did the same with my green tails.
Have still to paint those a bit though, they look a tad plain otherwise.
I love how the blue of your tail almost matches your dolphin!
OK! So my first tail is complete! :) It's not perfect by any means, but it works and I love it. I know SO MUCH from making this first prototype it isn't even funny. I'm going to (almost) immediately start on my next one. I have so many new ideas.
It's partial silicone and spandex in Appx 1/2 inch thick layers ( I tried more, but you had problems seeing the print of the spandex underneath. The effect was achieved, although I probably wont go with a printed spandex next time, I'll just paint it myself.
The monofin is completely home-made as well with fiberglass and rubber swim-shoes ( which are murder to get on lol)

This is the Front. the cute little fins are filled with poly-fil so they try to float when I'm swimming giving them a natural movement.

This is the Back. There is a zipper somewhere in all those fins.

Close up of the scales. I individually painted each larger scale by hand. Took forever.

In action! :) I'm waiting on my waterproof camera to come in so I can take a decent underwater video. Here is some normal video just to see how it moves.

Beautiful!!
Holy Carp! The scales look fintastic!
Incredibly awesome tail.
From glancing at it alone I can tell it was a helluva lot of work.
Glimmer Betta: That is an awesome tail! I especially like the little side-fins :)
Hi everyone! New to the forums and just got my Merberry tail on July 1st. I'm in love with it. Pic is in my signature. Hope you all like it :)
@Erica I love the colors! Is that Latex?
@Caltuna Omg.. you don't even know. It needs a lot of overhauling too... probably because I had no idea what I was doing at all. I don't know if I'll keep it, or start a new one. This is an expensive hobby lol. I don't know if my next one will be a partial or a full silicone yet... I have ideas for both, but not exactly space lol.
@Moonlight Thank you! :3 It was my gramma's idea heehee.
Yay my tails has come so far! I love it right now!!!

It is latex. But, Merberry is making me a silicone one in the near future. :)
Glimmer Betta, that looks wonderful! I was going to ask if anyone has done a hybrid tail, layering silicone over fabric. It looks awesome! Congrats!
I have two good tails right now, both spandex with finis Rapid monofins. A red one that I made myself and painted, and a blue Angel tail from Aquatails.com

Turns out, I'm not a very good artist, it was supposed to look more or less like a Rainbow Trout, though....ugh....kinda failed XD
