That Awkward Moment When: Mermaid Edtion!

There is an ad in the local paper, for a children's entertainer. I took the ad and went to my consultant from the job agency...

That awkward moment when you suddenly realize the whole class room is quiet and listening to you, because you've spent the last 10 mins trying to convince your recruitment consultant (from the job agency), that you don't need to travel all over the place nor lug your stuff on public transport when you can meet the clients at the local pools and beaches. And they ask why, you reply, "Cos I'm a mermaid. We need water to survive and mermaids don't go on buses!" That's they give you a funny look and then you get them to look it up on their computer, and they still insist that you need a car license...

That awkward moment when you wrap yourself up in cellophane to make a duct tape dummy, and then realizing you left your scissors on the OTHER side of the room... and then realizing you really need to pee after you put on the DUCT TAPE -_-

That ackward moment when you need to get out of your tail, but the string is to tangled up to be untied, so my brother goes to get some scissors at the desk. He asks the desk employee, "Can I get some scissors to persuade the fish to let go of my sister?" He told me she stood there staring for a few moments before she realized he was talking about my tail, to bad I couldn't see her face

the awkward moment when kids ask you where mermaid babies come from and your pretty sure they dont know where HUMAN babies come from. ( i will never forget that day O-O)

That awkward moment when all that exercise is causing you to make more bubbles than just your usual one or two fart bubbles. You hope that no one surfaces at the spots that you "let go", and if they do, you blame it on somebody else in lanes! (Yes, this has happened to me. I pointed to the old lady who was sharing my lane!:$)

That awkward moment when you're in a dive shop looking for potential mermaiding supplies (neoprene socks, belt weights, etc.) and the assistant is trying to help you, but all of their questions don't apply to mermaiding.

Assistant: "So do you dive?"

Me: "No, the closest I've come is snorkling."

Assistant: "You do snorkling then?"

Me: "Not really, what I do is more like freediving. But I float like a marshmallow and was considering a light diving belt."

Assistant: "Generally do you don't use a weight belt for freediving."

Me: "Yeah, I know, but I'm not freediving. Do you guys have any monofins?"

Assistant: "Any what?"

Oh my gosh I actually had a similar experience to this! I think I manged to find the only store in Australia that sells Finis Monofins so I drove about 40 minutes to go visit it (I called ahead to make sure they had monofins in stock).
Once there the woman came over, asked what I was looking for.
I said monofins
She directed me over to the shelf and asked what one I was interested in.
I told her the competitor or something to help me train up to the competitor.
She asked if I was a free diver or if I had ever used a monofin before.
My friend then butted in and said "No. She's a mermaid."
I just groaned as the woman told me the competitor was 'too big for a mermaid tail' and I spent the next few minutes trying to explain to her that, 'no, I have actually swam in a tail with a competitor before'.

@ Mary Marine - That sound like the conversation I had with the club pool when I bought my Finis Wave. I rang to check that they allowed people to bring fins in. The receptionist didn't even know what it was! I had to explain to her what it was and how to put it on and use it. Then she went to explain to the Head Lifeguard... Luckily, minutes later, she said yes. Also, the swim and dive shops where I live, don't even know what freediving is!

That awkward moment when you can see yourself becoming a mertail creator as a serious job. And no one around gets you and you have to explain how your not the only person who wants to do it or isn't doing it already and they dont take you seriously at all and doubt you will amount to anything. *sighs*
