Haha, good point! :P Though admittedly, I'm so desperate to get off the island that coming down with a case of "Tropical Plague #2877589754893543" even sounds like more fun. It'd be the most exciting thing going on in my life... >-> /sigh

Ugh, Lotus, that is so awful!
It's fine that he apologized, but an apology doesn't change the fact that he said all those things and put you both in danger with his reckless driving! A lot of people don't understand how damaging verbal abuse can be. I haven't spoken to my father in years and years and it was the best thing for me. My mother and I have always had a tense relationship and it got really bad there for several years, but we've managed to reach a good place recently. You have to protect yourself, even against parents sometimes. And there's nothing wrong with taking time away from school so you can go back on your own terms. It's really really awful of him to throw their monetary support back in your face like that.
It's traditional for my fiance's family to make their own food for weddings (he's mexican) so we've decided to go with tradition and have both of our family bring in dishes, his will bring mexican food, mine will bring soul food. But the problem is, every single venue we find wants to charge us an extra $800 for not using their caterers!
The amazing guy I mentioned in the happy thread? Randomly dissappeared on me with no explanation and not even a hint that anything was wrong.
Right when I'd finally gotten to the point where I was just beginning to hope and trust again.
Never again.

Oh, Lilium. That's awful. :(
And yeah, venues like to kick one in the butt that way, Momo. (My dad and his wife used to work at a historical mansion/museum that also served as an event venue)
That is just plain wrong! Why would you have to pay $800 for NOT using a service?
Are there any other places you could check out besides the venues you have looked at so far? Sometimes the most unexpected places can bbe used for a wedding, like a library, a museum, a community centre, sometimes even people with big houses and back yards are open to have their house used for a wedding, just throwing out ideas here.
I love the idea btw of having family and friends make the food. My brother had the same at his wedding. Me and my mom made the wedding cake and the cupcakes for desert and they had friends make all the other foods, saved them a lot of money as well.
Could you explain further what soul food is?
So I can't really bitch about this on my Facebook because it directly impacts my husband but I know how fast things spread in our community and am kinda hoping that others could spread the words that I am about to say. And this in no way is pointed at anyone on MN
Dear people who are mad about Starbucks cups.
Starbucks employees have NO control over the cups they serve your coffee in, unless you are served coffee by one of the suits in marketing and upper management. They found out about the cups less than 24 hours before the rest of the world and while a plain red cup seems to be offensive to some people I think that berating, yelling at and generally making the lives of the store employees miserable is more offensive and in no way being 'Christlike'. They are paid minimum wage to sling caffeine at you for 8 hours a day and they really don't need you freaking out over the festiveness of the cup you're going to be throwing away in 10 minutes. Starbucks employees come in all Faith Flavors, you don't know upon arrival and I'm 99% sure that you won't know upon departure what, if any, faith the 3-15 different people in aprons follow.
Just because they wear the Siren doesn't mean that they are somehow lesser people than you. Just because the guy at the espresso machine is handing you a red cup does not make him any less of a Christian than you.
If you want your coffee served in a Christmas cup then bring your own. Not only can the cup be as Faith filled or as over the top as you want but you will also get a discount.
Do whatever, but please PLEASE, leave those poor overworked baristas alone. Let them sling Christmas blend (single origin this year and is amazing in a Flat White) and the most minty peppermint mocha frappucinos in peace.
What Would Jesus Do? Jesus would tip
I totally agree with you on this one. It's just a paper cup in a different colour then normal. There are enough other things in the world to worry about then a paper cup.
I saw on FB also a nice post about this, that if they wanted a Christmas cup, they should bring their own markers and make it festive.
I posted a video response to this ridiculousness on my Facebook page to start a counter movement. I saw so many posts about this and heard so many stories from my friends who work at Sbux being harassed that it made me sick. The guy who started the movement is a real jerk. I'm surprised he has so many followers. Ugh. :1
I'd love to see the video so I could share it everywhere.
theyre angry about a red cup but they aren't angry about the pagan siren on the cup ? Uhhhhhh
Here it be! I hope it helps. It's been shared quite a bit on Facebook. I haven't posted it anywhere from YouTube yet.

I don't understand this red cup controversy at all. What do snowflakes have to do with Christianity?
I dont get it either, its just the colour of a cup that your going to throw away. Why does it matter?

Nothing, absolutely nothing. And Starbucks has nothing to do with Christianity either. They're not a Christian company, and have never claimed to be one.

Wow, some people simply have too much time on their hands to be able to start a movement against a red cup
Well said PhaylennMurúch !
And great video and well said as well Lotus.
By the way Lotus....your have probably the most beautiful eyes i have ever seen!
I have a hubby so please don't take it the wrong way, you truly have beautiful eyes! Kinda jealous over here....
I only hope it helps to start a counter movement of loving people! It's sad that a few angry people with too much time on their hands can start so much ruckus.
Omg, thank you!! You're super sweet. :'D <3
By the way, I LOVE your shop! Just saw it and favorited it as soon as I saw all of your beautiful creations. <3
Am I crazy that when I saw the red cup with a white lid I thought, "well that is pleasantly christmas-y/holiday-y/festive"?
