Kaiju, I know you say you aren't looking for advice, just want to let you know that if you feel you are in danger and don't have the means to go elsewhere, contact the local department of family services and ask for accommodation, because technically, you are a victim of domestic violence.

This is rather inconsequential compared to the other things being discussed in this thread right now, but it pissed me off so badly.
Some coworkers and I were discussing the attacks in Paris in the break room yesterday, and one of them outright blamed the attack in the concert hall on the band that was playing that night, claiming that it was devil music and the band had demons inside them and that was why the concert was attacked. I was absolutely outraged. Normally, I try to hold my tongue when someone is being stupid, just to avoid unnecessary conflict, but that just stripped my gears and I couldn't keep it in. I'm a damned good actress, so my coworkers had never seen me so angry, but I made clear that the attack had nothing to do with what band was playing, only that it was a ton of people crammed in one room which makes a prime target, and that there was more satanic about blues music (remember that story about how blues music was invented? Yeah, the one about Robert Johnson meeting the devil at a crossroads and selling his soul to learn to play the guitar) than what Eagles of Death Metal was playing. She saw my point and took it well, but I lost a LOT of respect for that coworker and I don't think she can ever gain it back.

Naufra- Perhaps she grew up in a very religious household who sprouts the same stuff. If She took your point well, maybe she's willing to be open minded and not just stick to her narrow mindset. I think that if she's willing to hear out other people's points on issues, and possily gain insight from them then you shouldn't say you'll never gain respect for her again, thinking outside the ways you were taught is pretty respectable... Esp in Texas. I know Texans, they're crazy!

That's very true, Kaiju. I was probably far too hasty in saying she could never regain my respect, but at the time I was absolutely appalled that she would even think such a thing. Especially when the band's name, Eagles of Death Metal, is entirely ironic. They make hipster pop music. It's not reasonable, however, to assume she would know that and it's entirely likely that she had never even heard of them before. It shouldn't matter what type of music it was though, because any band playing that venue that night would have faced the same disaster. To hear someone who I know considers themselves a good Christian justify mass slaughter by terrorists based on the type of band she thought they were disgusted me.Quote:

This week is when my college has us register for the next semester. As always there are issues making a seemingly simple process extremely stressful for just about everyone. One year I wasn't able to register because the program decided I owed like $5.00 (which I didn't and it was a program error) but I had to pay it anyways just to register and it caused me to have to take some things I wasn't planning on taking because classes filled up while I was rushing to pay the fake fee. My friend registered today and he is having issues with getting some of his classes due to a special administrative permission that he needs.
While I am grateful that there have been good improvements in the registration process, there seems to always be a big issue with it every year and so I dread registering. Hopefully tomorrow morning I won't have issues when I go to register.
