Final update for tonight, I pulled the molds. The stupid lumps aren't workable but I knew that. Oh well. I'll try again tomorrow morning.

I'm gonna go another round and see what comes of it before calling in cavalry (caviarlry?) I just poured a new mold and it looks less bubbly already and the curing is happening now. Sooooo fingers crossed. I'm watching Labyrinth while I wait :(
I like the way you think, Ms. Bromine.
I'm listening to Labyrinth soundtrack :(
Considering whether I could do a tail inspired by that ballgown... white iridescent scales, lots of floofy fabric fins...

Oop. Mold's done.
AUGH okay. I'm doing a round without any release.

I love your thought process on your scales. I, too, like a more realistic look to the scales. The round scales are fine and most people use them because they are the quickest way to an end, but I have had the same thoughts about the shape of the scales like you do.
I can't wait to see more progress!
That tail idea is gorgeous. I've always wanted to try making that gown, but my sewing skills are about kindergarten-level.
As for mold release, I have some of the Mann ease release but I've found that I actually just prefer using Vaseline. It's cheap, easy to get, and you can apply it with a soft paintbrush. In fact, it's also a good method for smoothing your sculpts.
I love your tail idea, looks so romantic! :-)

This one :-)
So I just got off the phone with Reynolds Advanced Materials. They basically said the bubbling shouldn't happen but that doesn't really stop it from happening so... not sure what to do with that information. They *did* suggest using an acrylic spray and letting that be a barrier between the clay and the resin. So I'm gonna throw more money at this and get acrylic before I succumb buying straight-up shell shock. The first and second were using Ease Release 200 and the third was vaseline.

They suggested that to me too. It didn't work because the monster clay had too much moisture. But yours is not as bubbly as mine so I still have hope!

It is most definitely the clay. I just pulled one with no release agent whatsoever and it was bubbly. Off to Home Despot for acrylic.
