Hey fellow merfolk!
I've surfaced from the depths of dry land challanges! :D Small update video on my scales. After many obstacles and whatnot I'm finally getting to where I wanna be.

That is heartstoppingly beautiful, Nim! I was wondering what had happened to this project!
Thanks Pearlie! Means a lot to hear that from a fellow tailmaker <3 Yeah, life threw a few big changes my way. As it goes. But I'm not one for quitting :) Planning to join the merfolk at Sirenalia's retreat in Belize in February, and hopefully get some really good visuals for you all!
And now to answer a few questions I've been asked via pm several times:
1. No, I do not use airbrush. My tail is completely handpainted. I just can't get the thinned silicone to not clog my gun every ten seconds. It was waaay too frustrating.
2. Thanks so much for your enthusiasm and faith in my crafting skills <3 But I will Not take Any tail orders until I'm Completely sure this works as I intend it to.
I just love your work! I love how there is depth to your painting and that wonderful pearlescent shine. You also have a lot of realism in your work. I really can't wait to see this tail finished. It has been one of my favorite tailmaking topics to follow.
I just love your work!!
This is beautiful! Holy smokes. Your skills are incredible. ❤❤

Thanks Alea. So happy you spot that. I'm trying for a realistic-ish texture :)
Very flattered Avya! I'll accept that compliment once my tails survives the first swim ;)
I'm working on my seams just now (See below) The back of the tail doesn't have its topcoat yet so you can really spot the color differnce. I think I'm on the right track for an even..ish seam on my first tail. What do you guys think?

I think it is stunning. You are going to be the fishiest fish EVER!
:fallover:
I think you are doing a great job matching the scales up!
Thanks for your input guys! :)
Second seam underway. I find that the two different colours really help to get an even pattern - But boy do I feel like Dr Frankenstein! :D

Haha I thought those were jewels along your seam at first and I was like: "Wait why is she putting jewels there?"
Piercings! :D Haha, true...Could have been!
Now, on to the fluke! Then fittings, waistline construction and final paint job ^^

Colours are off, thanks to my old phone camera which doesn't cope well with shine -.-

Here is where I faint. :fallover:
That seriously looks like skin from a real mermaid. You're an incredibly talented artist.
:jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop:
It is GORGEOUS and so so realistic looking!! This reminds me so much of a salmon! I can't wait to see the finished results:)

Wow, I'm totally blown away by your response and all your comments!! :$ Really happy to hear you like my work <3.
Meanwhile I'm taking a bit of a break from all the silicone and idly crafting a few mer-ccessories :D Frist I wanted to make a headband, but it totally escalated and is now more of a crown-thingie:

^EXQUISITE!
Did you use E6000 glue?
Thanks :) No, I've used a common hot glue gun from the local hobby store! I'm not sure we Europeans have even ready access to E6000, and if we do it's probably called something totally different :D
I see! Actually, I am from the Netherlands and I ordered E6000 glue at a Dutch webshop today. Many of my fellow Dutch mermaids also use E6000, and also call it that. It should also be available in Switzerland (that's where you're from right?), under the same name :)
But anyway, the glue you used probably works just as well :) what's it called? ^^

Oh thanks Lyara, I had no idea! :) Guess my local craftingstore is a bit backwards in their inventory.
Mermaid top finished while waiting for silicone coats to dry!

@Mermaid Izzy: Wow, that's amazing! :) Make sure you show them off here ok?
Looking forward to it Izzy! :)
Meanwhile, fluke base assembled! Now on to cut it's proper shape, not too happy with the current state... and then the full on assembly and final paintcoats :D More dots must happen!

Thanks guys! ^^ Happy you like the progress!
Meanwhile I had to open one side of my tail again. Because, in spite of me having measured about five times, my calves suddenly had enough room to dance a little jigstep :thinks:
Nym, I think out of all the tails that have been created, including large mer businesses, yours is my number one favourite tail out there at the moment. It's so great and unique I have no words. Can we please be freshwater mer sisters?? <3
