I added a string so it can hang loosely on my arm. I've actually had it in the ocean and the mirror was fine :)

I used what's called a 'bead reamer', and found a thick part to hand drill. Ya gotta be careful ^.^ I've drilled shells with a pair of scissors before lol.
You could also use a dremel with a fine bit. Just be careful when drilling shells as the DUST CAN BE TOXIC. Many people suggest drilling the shell while it's submerged in water or wearing breathing masks. Abalone shells are especially notorious.
Thank OceanWhisper and Lorelei. I'll go and raid the tool shed and see what bits I can find and will definitely drill the shells underwater.
I really want to get a proper drilling tool- I'm thinking a dremel or a hobby drill ^.^ I also had a thought for something else that might work that I'll try when I remember (a bit of a crazy idea, but hey if it works, it works!)
Just some sea glass and wire work. Makes for beautiful charms and accessories

(My shell drilling idea worked! I can now use a manicure tool to drill shells) :) I made myself some new earrings! Been wanting to for a little while, but I didn't want to break the tiny shells :P no breakage with my 'new drill!' They're simple and oceanic, perfect for me :) Attachment 32709
Oooooo.....well done! :) Looks great.
So are we allowed to hear what the "new drill" is, or is that hush-hush?
Thanks Lillium ^.^ I was gonna say the same thing :D
I'm always happy to tell you guys my jewellery techniques, Sienna Star, especially since it's so difficult to drill shells without breaking them normally. The tool I use is really good, because in terms of handling it's easy. Plus I'm fairly sure the kit was under $25 :) Merfolk help each other and stick together :)
Thank you :) hugs
This is the only accessory I have at the moment. A natural Aquamarine ring.
It is said, Aquamarines are a cherished object for mermaids. :)

Those candles are really great! Did you use scented candle wax?
Here is an update on my blanket:

I decides to experiment with the size of the scales...
Also, my customized mermaid shoes:

Yep, I used these candles (Normal white ones and scented red ones):

Took the wicks out:

Glued them onto the middle of the shell.
Melted the wax, mixed some colors-shades and poured it in the shells.
Let it set and voilá; you have Shell Candles!
