OMG, that shark is so adorable! You should totally make a little remora friend. That would look so cute attached to either a tail, top, armband, what have you.

I LOVE that idea!!!
Urgh! In love with everything u make! :swoon:
Whelp, there goes my next paycheck...
Love love love, especially the nudis! If you're looking for more octopus to sculpt, you could try that new octopus that marine biologists are currently studying! Here's a link for some inspiration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wv7DfebpL7E
Also, if you're branching out to fish, might I suggest the flamboyant cuttlefish for their amazing colours, and frogfish, cause I personally find them to be so dang cute ><
Thanks, all! Rioraptor, I've already had a request for that octopus, and I actually have a cuttlefish sculpt I'm working on right now! (It's a cephalopod, though, which is a mollusc, not a fish :) ) I thought of frogfish as well, actually. I saw several of them while diving in Panama last year, and I agree they are really cute!
Ohmygosh, ohmygosh, ohmygosh! I can't wait to see the pictures of your new critters! Now I know where I'll be throwing my money at soon :eyebrows:
Dang, totally forgot about cuttlefish not being fish >.< my dive instructor would kill me!:lol: I'll keep an eye on this thread, just in case you go through with the frogfish. They're my absolute favourite animals, aside from the flamboyant cuttlefish and pin-cushion seastars
I have a lot of animals I want to make! One thing at a time, though. I probably won't finish the cuttlefish this week, since I'm in the middle of moving, but next week I'll have my new workshop all set up at our new place!
Ok girl you got me now, like totally... I'm so in love with sharks that I just can't stand this right now, omg.......
Could you do a custom paint for the shark?
Well.....after working heaps the past fortnight, I can see my money swimming out the door :P (once I get paid..though I'll wait till the cuttlefish is finished ^_^)
amazing !! :)
PLEASE make Adorabilis!!!! Cutest thing ever
Merenneito Nerissa, I sent you a message :)
Right now I'm just like...I just want to sculpt and make more animals...but I have to pack and move all the things :P (I'm still taking orders, just probably won't have any new animals finished until after the move is done)
Theo (ha, a nickname!), I couldn't send you one back cause your inbox is full :D
I know, I'm a dweeb, I just cleared it!
Hey guys! I popped on here to write a review of Cyanea's top that we tested on Sunday!
First off, let me say that the thing is so comfortable. There's no pinching, no sticking, and the top is so lightweight! I expected it to be much heavier than it actually is. Swimming in it is a breeze, let me tell you. Never once did I feel like it was going to fall off, and the netting straps in the back held everything securely in place.
I had a friend adjust the neck strap for me and she tugged pretty tightly and everything still held together, no problems at all. Pictures don't do the top justice - the pigments Cyanea used shift colors in the sun. In some lighting, it's a dark purple, and in the sun it shifts from lavender to an almost icy blue. It's fantastic! There are no bubbles in the cast, no untrimmed pieces, nothing. It's an extremely professional-looking casting and painting job. I'd highly recommend one (and wish I could wear it all the time but alas, work dresscode...)

Okay, so, I am the third kelp top tester (mine is the dark green with bronze) and I have to say it is freaking amazing. I could pretty much copy exactly what Octavia said. It doesn't move AT ALL when you're swimming, it is basically weightless in the water, and the colors! My kelp is so much more than just green and bronze. It's like a deep forest shimmering with hidden metals. I love it. It fits superbly and I love the fact that YOU CAN'T SEE THE BRA. She covered every inch of strap for a completely natural look and it's fabulous.
Now, keep in mind that I am a bustier woman and standard seaweed tops would be much too revealing on me. They're just not sculpted large enough. Cyanea's method allows me to be completely covered and modest in any position. No worrying about flashing kiddies!
To sum up, I love my top and I think everyone should have one in their merwardrobe. (Merdrobe?)
This reminds me! I'm not busty in any sense of the word, but the way Cyanea makes these tops, she can accommodate pretty much any size lady. I'm actually kinda flat, despite having C's and run into trouble with tops flying open underwater since I don't "fill them out" as much as someone who is more blessed in the chest, haha. I don't have that problem with Cyanea's tops. They're wonderful!
<3 <3 <3 <3 You guys! <3 <3 <3 <3
This little shark is on her way to Talia!

Woof. I have spent the last week or so moving into my new place, in the middle of a !$@#$%^&&^%$#@!#$%^&%$#@$% heat wave. In case you don't know, I live in Seattle and grew up in this area and do NOT handle the heat well (probably even worse than your average Seattleite) and we're having record-smashing temperatures here. When it gets this hot in Seattle, everyone pretty much just...dies. So, this is my ghost writing here :P
Anyway, considering how miserable and useless I get in the heat, moving and unpacking and organizing and all that shite has taken me way longer than it should, but I have my workshop room mostly set up now, and I managed to finish painting these guys to send out:

Anyway, so yeah...working on stuff, just...being kinda slow because bleahhhh. Also, it's been getting so hot in my workshop room the silicone I was using to paint the nudies was curing way too fast, it actually seized up before I could finish the second orange-spotted one I was working on. *grumble* So I've been taping foil over all the windows and I had to go out and buy an a/c unit yesterday, which I've never had to do before. I'm pretty sure it was the last one in any of the stores in Seattle. Target and the hardware stores were all sold out, and I found mine at QFC of all places. I think the only reason they still had one in stock was because no one thinks to shop at a grocery store for an a/c unit.
So, erm, yeah. Oh, and the other thing I wanted to mention is that I will still hopefully list kelp tops on my Etsy soon, I just need to figure out what bras I can get easily that come in a wide variety of sizes and aren't too expensive but that are still good quality. I want to be able to offer them in any size, but I need to at least take into account the larger or more unusual bra sizes that might cost significantly more, and figure out how to charge for that difference.
Here's a quick pic of two new sharkies I made for my husband's co-worker. They're for her two young nephews and she asked if I could do blue on one and orange on the other (those are their favorite colors). I had a few moments of BUT BAMBOO SHARKS ARE NOT BLUE AND ORANGE until I realized that nurse sharks (Ginglymostoma cirratum)....come in blue and orange. And red and purple and yellow :P I used to work at an aquarium where we had 10 of them. And they're the same basic body shape as bamboo sharks, barbels and all. So I painted them to look like baby nurse sharks (the babies have spots!) and just made the colors a little more intense (especially on the blue one) but stayed pretty true to life other than that. Fun times.

That orange nurse is so beautiful! I want to huggles it forever!

Omg these are adorable! :swoon: ever thought of making sea horses? ❤️
Bahaha! Thanks you guys, it makes me so happy to hear all your nice comments!
Merenneito Nerissa, I tried to message you back yesterday but your inbox was full!
Ariel Starfish, yes I have! Everyone has been requesting seahorses! I'll definitely make one at some point, but I have to finish the cuttlefish first, and I also need to get some work done on my own tailmaking project, which I haven't had much time to work on lately. But I will definitely have some new animal molds hopefully in the near future!
CUTTLEFISH <3 omg this is exciting
Those sharks are so freakin cool! I am excited to see the seahorses and cuttlefish. [emoji7]

Morning, lovely merfolk! Got a quick question for you guys (while I work on a lil sharky-sharkie for a certain someone...)
I have these four stingrays that I made a while back, just kind of sitting around. The two bluespotted ones are some of the first ones I made last year, and they're imperfect so I haven't sold them or anything, just kept them around. I kind of messed up their tails when I tried pouring some silicone that had already gotten a little too thick (I had tried to use a silicone thinner so I could paint with it, but I didn't like how it worked and I didn't want to waste the blue silicone I'd mixed so I quickly poured it into the tails of the stingray molds, but it had already gotten kinda gloppy). As a result, their tails look a bit lumpy, and the silicone is a lot softer and stretchier than the normal silicone, even though it's fully cured. Also, I made the clear coat on the body parts a little too thick and it's noticeable if you look closely. If anyone is interested, though, I was thinking I might sell them for half price ($10 instead of $20). As long as you don't care that their tails are a bit weird, you could have a cheap stingray that's ready to ship right away. If anyone is interested I can put up an Etsy listing.
The two greenish-gold ones aren't defective in any way, they're just a weird color. I made them when I was casting my first kelp piece and accidentally mixed up way too much silicone. Didn't want to waste it so I just poured it into the stingray molds. So they're a greenish-gold base color with a bit of a golden wash over them, and eye details. I was thinking of selling these guys for $15 since they're not defective, they just have a boring paint job. Again, let me know if you're interested and I'll put up a listing for them.

Weird...for some reason I haven't been getting a lot of notifications from MN :-/ It normally goes to my email but now I'm only seeing replies if I actually scroll through the forums...apologies to anyone if I haven't responded quickly to messages or anything. *grumble*
Merenneito Nerissa your inbox is full again! Also, fyi for you and everyone else, I should be able to accept Paypal on my Etsy shop now, if that's more useful to anyone (let me know if for any reason it doesn't work).
Ok, awesome :) (-> inbox cleaning... )
