Can I just say I love you for using Nosy Be chams as an inspiration. As a fellow chameleon-inspired mer, I approve.

I love your scales Selkish!! I hope it's started to work out for you :)
I'm cleaning out the mold right now. I got distracted yesterday because of an event. I kinda wish I'd done a full scale sheet because this resin takes so long to cure.
Your tail will look so cool when it is done, and since you are starting now you will for sure have it by summer time.
That's what *I* thought, a year ago....
I'm diligent! I might be able to do this....?
The mold Ashton and Wesley helped me make came out pretty nice. I just mixed some new scales to see if I could clear more of the Fimo and get the colors I wanted from my pigments.

Now THESE are the molten metal scales I was hoping for. The gold looked yellower with the addition of the gold sparks I bought for the slime coat. The copper on the far right have hints of the blue highlight I also used for a slime coat but you can barely see it. No matter really. I do like the effect still. On the far left is a pigment that actually was my first tail color inspiration.
SIDETRACKED: This month's Ipsy bag gave me a pot of eyeshadow that reminded me of an eyeshadow I had years ago, the first one I bought when I started learning makeup. It was Too Faced's "Label Whore". I lost that pot but never forgot that coppery burgundy that flashed blue in the light. I recently bought a replacement (urban decays "Lounge") . Then, Ipsy sent me a pot of Marsk's "Mudcake" and since the Nosy Be Chamaleon was coming out much too rosy, I figured, if I have the pigment, I can use it.

Additionally, I was able to counteract a lot of that rosiness with the Dublin green pigment I had bought for the patina scales. So now I have the more true to pot coppery brown with blue sparks. So now, fingers crossed to see how this turns out!!!

You can have it done by summer if you work almost every day. I won't lie I'll be a bit salty if you finish that fast though. >.>

Good luck!!!
It is possible, I started in February and was done by summer. You do have to work everyday and pull multiple times a day. Again, it's possible; a lot of work; but possible.

So now that I've been back at work I've got less time to work but a little more time to daydream. I started doodling some ideas for tops inspired by the centaurettes from Fantasia.

Something about the open back looks so much more "other worldly" than the standard bra trappings to me. Simply replace flowers with shells n'stuff. Also the centaurettes used birds and stuff for their outfits so I feel like using sea stars is like, a spiritual sibling to that.

I'm thinking maybe using those stick-on bras you can get as a base/mold and then using silicone starfish and other silicone pieces for additional support. I'm trying to figure out what to do for the garland piece. It's not like long garland-like species of seaweed don't exist. Suggestions would be nice.

I love your ideas for the top! Also your sketches are lovely.
My only concern with stick on bras is that you use water to remove them. Unless you're planning on using a waterproof body safe glue, or use something skintone to wrap around the whole way, the second those babies get wet they'll just slide off
What is that? More scales?

Not all of these are usable but y'know, they're looking right.

Yeah, I wear them for conventions sometimes, and by the end of the day just sweat alone makes them come off (I usually bodytape them to the outfit I'm wearing so everything holds itself together). Those scales are looking pretty, though. Very natural!
they remind me of some of the scales on a bearded dragon's back. I spend a lot of time looking at lizards.
Spirit gum comes off in water :(. Try Pros-aide Adhesive, I mixed that with paint to see if i could make a better body paint and it took several hours of scrubbing, 3 showers and even 2 days wearing jeans before it came off, but that's what you get when you don't have the remover stuff.
What about shit tons of waterproof eyelash glue?

Depends on the brand, and some eyelash glue [like all things] doesn't really do what it says it should.
I say test it.
I have had some wig glue in the past that had this 'amazing ability' of not coming off when remover is applied or in the shower... after like 2 days and like 6+ showers later it came off in chunks. But it was super weave glue from the hair place on Torrance/PCH.. Because when it comes to cosplay; I need 'dem wigs to stay on my head.
If not for underwater those would still be beautiful as a dry shoot or something

Beautiful scales Selkish. Really loving the color scheme and your positivism!! You got this!
Those scales look great and the colors looks great together as well :-)
Totally distracted at work thinking about my tail, I came across this:

I forsee myself getting a lot of metallic-colored things in my future, just because they remind me of my tail...
