You are so cute!!! Please tell me the glasses were intentional! You would make a such a good hipster Ariel.
Actually those are my real glasses. I fully acknowledge that I am hipster everything I cosplay and I'm ok with that.
The Hipster Ariel image is enhanced by the man sitting next to you (your mertender?), and your being in an urban environment! :mermaid kiss:
Yes. That's my mertender Spenser. He dressed up like Eric to go with me!http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...bbd7158052.jpg
Awww, you two look so sweet together! :mermaid kiss:
Aww, that's so cute! I do actually love the "hipster Ariel" vibe you've got going on there, it's not overdone because it's so natural!
On a side note, HOW in Poseidon's name did yo get your shells to stay up like that?!? Spirit glue? You look to be about the same size as me, and I'm REALLY loving the no-bra look your sells have, and I'm just wondering how you keep your... ahem... "tracts of land" up haha!
I'm a size C. Basically I brushed spirit gum all over the back of the sea shells then I laid on my back and held them in place for about 5 minutes. I had my boyfriend tie the net around me really tight! The shells are a bit too heavy for spirit gum alone but it does help keep them from shifting. Next time I'm going glue the net to the shells to keep that from shifting. Otherwise it was a really great way to hold the shells on.

Finally finished my Summer Tail! I call it, Trout Fish.
Closed fluke with elastic waistband. Fin goes in through the waist. Its baggy at the ankles area as I tried to accommodate those two weird ridges on the sides of the MerFin. I didn't do so for my other tail, and the fabric ripped at the V of the merfin after many times of taking the fin in and out.

Awesome fin! I love the fabric. :)
Ooo that is a nice patterned fabric tail, but I especially like the name "Trout Fish"; it's so cute! :mermaid kiss:

My fist fabric tail which I made out of old galaxy leggings and a left over piece of fabric given to me by my heterosexual soul mate years ago ^^ (and a finis foil monofin tucked inside)
Plan to go for my first swim in a tail tomorrow <3
(I am not the best seamstress but I still think this turned out pretty ok :)
Love the galaxy print, Lunette! I have a pair of galaxy leggings myself :)
Renayh, I love your tail! pretty sequins, and nice paint job!
thanks ^____^
The sequinned tail looks good enough to eat (seriously; it looks like candy!) and the galaxy tail is brilliant; it should look magnificent in the water! :mermaid kiss: to you both!
beautiful tails!
I just got my very first mermaid tail today!! I am so excited to show it to you all.
It's a mertailor partial silicone tail, which is the kind that comes in two parts (a solid silicone fluke and a silicone/neoprin tail skin that goes over it). The two parts can be worn together or the fluke can be worn separately.
I was able to take it to the pool at my university tonight and the student lifeguards were so excited to see it. One of the lifeguards was actually one of my former students so that made for a pretty funny conversation. I only swam with the fluke tonight because I wanted to get used to it and make sure I could swim well enough before I added the tail. It was a great success. I was even able to take it into the diving well and play around for a while after I got use to it in the lap lanes.
I really love it - the color is beautiful and the tail itself fits like a glove. I know it will likely stretch as I use it, but at least right now it's TIGHT (which is how I wanted it!) and comes up nice and high to my natural waist, which is how I measured for it. It's also super heavy...it was REALLY hard for me to lift up the fluke when I was in the tail dry (pretty comical - I was lying on the floor like a limp noodle)! But in the water it was perfect - with the fluke alone in the pool I was completely neutrally bouyant (I'm usually positively bouyant) so that was pretty cool.
I will post more pics and info once I swim in the full tail - should be later this week!

Emma that looks beautiful! It looks so natural when it moves like that, the fluke I mean. I've never swam with them separately so I actually don't know how that feels, I haven't done that cause in our swimming hall there's always children at the same turn who have seen me as a mermaid and I don't wanna break the illusion... :D But that looked so awesome that I might want to try, so eagerly waiting for your swimming videos with the full tail :)
Thank you, Nerissa! If you decide to try them separate, let me know and I can give you my tip for fastening the strap - it was a little tricky at first but I figured out a way of doing it by criss-crossing that kept it in place. My pool is at a university so everyone there is older, but I can't wait to see how the little kids like it at my outdoor pool this summer!
Having the monofin and tail "skirt" separate is an interesting idea, and seems to work if one has your tail's level of contrast. It looks lovely and so do you! :mermaid kiss:
Love the color Emma! Like cranberries!
Beautiful! I hope it lasts you many happy swims! :)

I can't for some reason upload my before picture, but you can see it on my harmony page on facebook. Coradion repainted it and I'm so thankful, because she was pretty beat up. You can check out more of his work on IG at HawaiianMerman, or you can message him on here. He's been working more on tops and cool feet, but just wanted to share, because it's usable and pretty again. :-)
Ooh, nice colour scheme :) I like the stripes!
Attachment 25767
Here's one pic of my tail, otherwise is exactly same Emma has but there's also this custom color scheme, which of course cost extra.. :D But I love it, I love the colors and everything. I only had to modify the size, two days ago I took it to this guy who fixes all kinds of industry fabrics and other stuff and he took it in from seams like 3-4 inches together. First the tail felt like it's correct size but then I noticed it really flapped a lot, and it was a bit too high also so I cut 4 rows of scales away. I also peeled the neoprin's top layer off about an inch down from the waist so it now looks a lot better when on :)
Oh and the color scheme was first described by me like a way lamer than there, and then I noticed that there's other kinds of options too, that you can even plan the whole thing by yourself, and I sent a mail for eric if he could still do it how I want it, and tried to describe smthn I like and I just got an answer that no can do, we stick in a first plan we get and that's it. And I felt so sad about it and send mails and everything and in the end Eric did that... And I was just amazed what a wizard he is, those colors oh gosh... And he did the stripes and everything, I think he had a vision from the story I told, that I'm going to be the northernmost mermaid in the world and I live in a capital of Lapland and so on, so I got a perfect northern lights - tail! I love it! It's nickname is Aurora <3 ( from aurora borealis :) )

and here's me with my tail in the photos hoot, this is my profile photo and a photo I use in press, and yes, It's outside and the river is frozen and there's snow, and it was like - 10 celsius degrees but you know, if 'm going to be an arctic mermaid I'll do it properly! :D :D ( oh and the photographer win a bronze medal with this photo in the International Loupe Awards! It's very big photographing competition :) )
Attachment 25769
And this is one of my favorite's, it's not published yet so it's not in anywhere yet, but after this month's diver magazine has appeared and photo is published it'll be my new profile and media photo :) Behind is our city's most known symbol, our bridge called Jätkänkynttilä, and there I'm also outside on the shore of river which I call a river where I live, it flows through our city Rovaniemi :) And there's lovely snow under me ^_^
On my youtube channel there's videos with the tail in action, I have no idea how to attach a single video in the thread so here's an address to my channel; www.youtube.com/merenneitonerissa
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnZ2mW1bJJM and this is the first video I made and first clips of me using it in a big pool, and I think there you can see the tail very clearly :)
Beautiful, nerissa!
Nerissa this is stunning! I love the details you gave about modifications. I'll keep playing around with mine and if I end up needing to make some adjustments I'll follow some of your tips here!
I might need to trim down the metal connector on one side of the fluke because it's poking up a bit and I don't want it to damage the skin.
I swam with my full tail last night, but just had a one piece suit on underneath because I was worried about flashing the lifeguards taking my tail off for the first time! I'll have to take more pictures with full mermaid ensemble soon!Attachment 25779https://vimeo.com/113636347
Mermaid Harmony, that tail's paintjob is really pretty and the little fins are fun! :mermaid kiss:
Emmadives your tail looks lovely too; even in a one-piece you look like a natural mermaid! :mermaid kiss:
Nerissa, I'm Canadian and have been in polar bear swims and outside in lingerie at -30 C (with windchill), so I can appreciate the effort to which you have gone for authenticity! Let me say that both photos are excellent, but the profile/press photo looks like a piece of fantasy artwork! Kudos to you for your beautiful display and to the digital editor who worked the lighting and everything out so well, and if the latter was also you than dual kudos! :mermaid kiss:
Your title of "Arctic Merfolk" reminds me of an old favourite from my MAGIC: The Gathering days whenever I decided to splash (pun!) Blue:

What's there to modify? They both look beautiful!
Unless you're adding fins?
well the neoprin was so thick, that it was lil bit visible from waist, so I cut the upper layer off, now it's a lot better :) And I want still to clue the tail skin on the fluke, cause now when they're separate curious lil ones can stretch the edge of the skin and then there's a lots of things visible which needs explanations-like those metal things which attaches the strap to fluke and well, my ankles and legs... :D :D I think it'd be a bit easier to just clue skin and fluke together than trying to figure out that what tha heck to explain for those kids... :D
Nerissa, those photos are shrimply GORGEOUS!!! :jawdrop: I've always adored the mystery and beauty of Lapland and the Aurora Borealis, so I particularly adore that first photo... But I also love the snow photo because even though I have circulation issues and get so cold all the time, I adore snow, it's so romantic!
EmmaDives, you look so natural and free! :swoon:
Easy, just say you got hit by a boat swimming to this pool and your fins fell off. And tell them to help you look out for a vet.
As for seeing what's inside your tail, easily explained again... They're your insides, just like land people have squashy red insides, mermaids have shiny metal insides.
Yea, but its just a metal link, I don't know, of course I'd say somethn like that but I'd like to glue it still :D I also think that it helps for til not stretching so much, cause the fluke is just so heavy and every time you lift it wrong, and well, every time you swim tail skin stretches. There's also another problem, there's this very strong and small string betveen the ends of tail skin which keeps it still around the fluke and it will eventually rip the fluke from middle of it and I think glueing would solve that.
I found out about that problem from one dive bar's youtube videos, let me see if I could find it
