Ah I just came accross this happy thread and thought I'd share my happiness!
After so many failures with my tail projects, I finally worked up enough guts to get back to it and it was so worth it. My first monofin I made was a disaster but I had a second try, had my first swim with this new monofin and it works wonders I'm soooo happy!
PearlieMae Najestic Entertainment is making it for me. Naja is wonderful and we both decided that the front of the fluke needs some more color, so will have an updated sketch soon :)
Ah! I thought the coloration was like what penguins have...light on the belly so predators looking up can't see them!
The belly I believe is staying the same, just the actual fluke with have some more color to it..I am beyond excited, they are making me a top as well to go with it!
Oh my goodness that is a gorgeous tail!! Its going to look amazing ^.^ Do you have a link to the maker by any chance?
Just got bitten by the famous Matilda of the Algonquin Hotel in New York City http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...47945106cd.jpg pic taken post bite
Yay. I think I recruited a little merboy!!!!
I was at the pool when I noticed a boy with big blue dive goggles ducking under to get a better look at my swimming. He waved when I surfaced, then waved at me while under when he noticed my eyes were open. I waved back.
I surfaced again, and as soon as I did he said, "Hi!"
So I said, "Hi!"
And no sooner than I had verbally acknowledged his presence he was rapid-fire asking me questions.
"Woow!! You're amazing!! How do you hold your breath for so long? And your eyes??? How do you keep them open without even blinking?"
So I said lots of practice. And he looked astounded. Astounded by how long I could swim for and by my tail, and by how surely I could see him from under even without goggles.
So then I said, "If you're so curious, you should try tail swimming!"
And he vigorously nodded and said "Yeah!"
And then I smiled, slipped back under the water, and swam away with one last wave.
He was anywhere from eight to ten and it was adorable.
I had my first swim today!!! A lot of exclamation points because I am BEYOND happy. There was a meetup in Syria, VA for the Chesapeake Pod, and a local mermaid offered to take me! I'm going to copy my post from the "first swim" thread in a minute.
My podmate called it the "virgin swim" and her husband said "I think she means maiden voyage." [emoji12]
I had my first swim today at a pod meetup in Shenandoah National Park! The water was crystal clear and so cold, but it was so good after hiking all that way!
I splashed around and really enjoyed it; everything was so fluid, so fast, so free. When I rose out of the water on my arms, I felt like me, not what everyone wanted me to be. The little fish swimming all around me just added to the magic ❤️

I got some great swim time in yesterday in Queen B (my fabric tail) My submerged breath hold is steadily increasing. Plus my makeup didn't smudge! I've also finally got bubble rings down! Then I went to Jo-Ann's today and the sea horse I've been wanting for months was on sale 70% off!! It was such a steal. It's been a great past two days and after getting some good practice in Queen B I can't wait for my first swim in my new tail!

I just dropped $700 on 4 new tires and fixed alignment for my car. Most people would be pretty upset by this, but after seeing that the two front tires were about to blow on me, and the back tires had dry rot, I'm pretty happy that I die. The damage to the tires couldn't be seen from the outside, really only from under, and if it weren't for a slow leak in one tire, I wouldn't have gotten it checked out.
This might be the first, but I'm happy there was a nail in my tire, because it got me to fix a much bigger problem, and avoid some bad things.
Despite the fact that I hate everything and am very depressed at the moment, I'd like to share the good of today, however short it was.
I went swimming in my Fin Fun tail at the pool today! Everyone was so happy to see a mermaid in our little city.
I learned how to swim! It sounds a bit ridiculous when you figure I just bound my legs and held my breath, but it worked for me. I dove in an 11-foot well at the end of the pool and it was magical, dear gods. I swam so fast. It was incredible. I can only imagine what a proper monofin would do!
Speaking of which, my Foil comes in tomorrow! *dances*

My scheduled roommate for the fall found my mermaiding Instagram....
And she thinks it's really cool!
Good news: I finally had my first gig!
Better news: I finally can order my silicone mermaid tail from GotMermaid!
For the last five weeks I have been going for swims at Harbor Cove Beach at Ventura harbor. Its a small beach just behind the breakwater, so the waves are quite small, making for easy entry. Its also not too long a drive for me, about 40 minutes each way. Ive learned quite a bit from these swims, and have been enjoying them.
The FinFun tail is in many ways the most fun. Its light and works well, especially with my modified monofin.
Ive taken the Toothless tail out there twice. It has more drag and is slower than my other tails. But its The Toothless Tail, which makes it wonderful. I had to again make my own monofin for it as my big fat feet would not fit in the supplied Mahina fin. Today, my DIY fin broke. And it was polycarbonate! The stuff is not invincible. Oh, well, I have plans for what to do for the next one to make it stronger and tougher.
Also, today as I was carrying the fin back to the car, someone asked me what it was. Me: "It's a merman tail." Him: "Oh? I recognized the design, I work for Dreamworks." I let him take a good look before heading home.
The tail with the Lunocet monofin is by far the fastest. It had some issues in the first swim, but I fixed them and it worked great in the second. That monofin is just about ready for a better skin than my DIY spandex one.
Also: At a pool I put on the tail at the water's egde, my feet in the water, on the first step. I started doing the same thing at the beach, getting into the very shallow water before donning the tail. Bad idea, sand gets into everything, including inside the skin. It then tends to collect at the tips of the tail, turning them into little sand bags. Now I don the tail just above the waterline and work my way to the sea. More effort, but well worth it.
Festival opens this weekend. I'm very nervous but also very excited. There have been so many obstacles thrown my way this summer but this weekend I get to debut my new tail and I couldn't be happier!

My mom is HOME!!!! if you don't know what happened here is the the short story, she got a hernia that went through her diaphragm and collapsed one of her lungs. They had to do emergency surgery and she was in the hospital for 10 days(not including today)
I came home from a furry convention to find a big box of mermaid swag had been anon sent to me. Its the limited edition mega box from Random Fandom and I am utterly perplexed. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...fbd6dac11e.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...3195e3579d.jpg

Those are super cute, Kelly! I like the little narwhal. :D
I saw this article:
"A New Zealand pizza chain aims to become the world's first company to offer a commercial drone delivery service, a milestone in the once-unthinkable quest to save time and money with an air-borne supply chain dispensing with people."
The article went on to discuss drones and various plans for using them for delivery. One comment on the article read as follows:
"The seagulls are going to love this. They already attack drones. Now they can get rewarded with a delicious pizza when they do."
I have my first gliding camp on the 17th of September where I can learn to fly gliders for the first time! :yay:
Got some progress made on the scales I'm making, then I got extremely distracted. I also put the final coat of glossy acrylic sealer on my Ariel shells for my costume this Halloween!

OMG I love lawn fawn! My mom and I make cards and paper crafts all the time. She tried to get me to order this set, but I couldn't bring myself to do it without the dyes and I wasn't really sure what I would use them for....I hope you enjoy them!

GIrl... you don't want to see my LawnFawn collection.... lol
I am just about finished with my newest tail, which brings the total to 9 that I have made! Phew! I also discovered I am not a fan of the sewing part, but I am of the painting. Maybe I need to open a Paint-Your-Tail service. XD
I called my gym and asked if they allowed monofins and they said they were allowed! Since my pool is too cold to swim in and they have a year round heated pool!

Went to the opening day of the local Renaissance festival. Wore my old court gown (haven't taken it out of the box since 2010). Was fun to add some new accessories to it and take it for a spin! It was fun being "Lady Radcliffe" again.
